Re: NH18 - Day 2/May 13th (Bolt Action & Free Choice) - Sign

Sadly I have work this weekend, but I'd like to show up and say hi, probably from around 6:30 on Sunday. Hope to see you then!

Re: Basic painting questions

Wow, many thanks to everyone who responded! Tons of useful info there. I have to admit, work is hectic now so I will have to sit down and digest it all when I get a quiet moment, but thanks again for being so helpful. When I get some free time next week, I'll start assembling my painting supplies.

Basic painting questions

Andy the absolute beginner here, hi all! After popping home for Golden Week, I now have 24 dinky little models and a set of rules! Next step is painting... Does anyone know of a good place to get a basic paint set and brushes in Nagoya? As I've never painted before, I have no idea precisely what's n...

Re: 28mm painted 19th-century samurai/civilian figures

Right! Ordered my first set of models - 12 samurai and 12 ACW civilians from Perry miniatures, and the IHMN rulebooks! I'm popping back to the UK for Golden Week and will collect them there. When I get back to Nagoya I will seek out a paint shop and get a basic set for painting them up. I expect res...

Re: 28mm painted 19th-century samurai/civilian figures

I have never wargamed before! Absolute beginner! My game plan going forward is: 1) to attend some NagoyaHammer events (trying to talk my boss into giving me May 13th off, so I can come along then) and get some hands-on experience with anyone who's willing to show me the ropes, and 2) at the same tim...

Re: 28mm painted 19th-century samurai/civilian figures

Those guys look absolutely spot-on! I'm loving the ex-soldiers and sailors, they're great! I've never touched a paintbrush since my schooldays, though, so I'm on the hunt for pre-painted models but if I can't get hold of any, these look like an excellent fall-back. Thanks!

28mm painted 19th-century samurai/civilian figures

Hi all! I'm a complete newcomer to miniature wargaming, and I'm trying to assemble my first collection. I'd like to do something small-scale set in the turbulent 1860s in Japan, and to that end I'm looking for a small band (say 5-10 figures) of samurai in civilian dress; something like these guys fr...

Re: Andy's first foray into wargaming!

Thank you again for your helpful advice! This sounds encouraging and I will start trying to get a ruleset (Pulp Alley seems to be a good option) and some miniatures together. I'm not a painter so I will try sourcing second-hand 28mm models from various sources- the leadadventureforum seems an excell...

Andy's first foray into wargaming!

Hello there! As I posted in the Intros section, I'm Andy and I've never wargamed before! No figures, no experience, but a strong desire to socialise, have fun, and do something historically-themed. I'll try to pop along to an event when I can (curse you, weekend shifts!) and get some hands-on experi...

Re: Hi all!

Thanks to everyone for their welcomes! I'll put the 15th May event in my diary, and be sure to come along. As far as rulesets go, at this stage I'm open to anything. So if anyone feels like dusting off an old favourite or trying something new, I'm happy to play guinea pig! I'd also be very grateful ...
