Not everyone paints the same way you do. I don't paint within the lines, I get the first layer in roughly the right places and then tidy up as I go.

~ That is how I paint.
and nowt wrong wi that, either. Tbh it's not a million miles away from how I paint. I spend plenty of time fixing up bits where paint has gone where it technically shouldnt. From what Dave has said, though, it looks like going over previous layers with a spot of primer then recolouring (which is largely what you and I do when we're fixing mistakes anwyay) looks to be very workable. Meh, I'm not totally sold on them, but they do look pretty useable. I'll probably mostly stick to inks and mediums for now, thoyugh, since I have em anyway.

1040 yen for an 18ml pot for the Contrast paints. I'm not going to say that I'm surprised, but these things had better work as advertised for that price.

wow. And there was me thinking things had changed, just a wee bit. Even for gw, that's pretty out there. Do people really, really spend that much on a single small pot of paint? I mean, sure, I guess they've done their research, but wow. I can't imagine ever spending that kind of cash on paint, and I loves me my paint.

Speaking of contrasts and historicals...

Image

(The one on the right is done in contrast paints, the guys on the left traditionally.) TBF, napoleonics are pretty much the target audience for GW's line of fairly bright, saturated colors, but I'm hearing good things about how impressive the range of browns and grays is as well.

As I mentioned in the today's progress thread, I picked up a pot of what is essentially the "plasma glow blue" color to use on, well, plasma - something I've been doing with inks and acrylic medium 'til now, and (kind of like painting flesh) generally find to be pretty fiddly to get to turn out well, and it worked fine. Needed a bit of touching up for my perfectionist self where the detail wasn't quite defined enough to trip the paint's surface tension and have it pool up, but in the end much easier and much more reliable than mixing up colors on my own. Is that worth 1000 yen for a pot? I'm still not sure on that in the case of plasma, but I'll definitely pick up a pot of one of the flesh tones next time I have anything on the workbench with exposed flesh.
