Banning Oko was a given, and well deserved, but what do you reckon about the Veil and Once Upon a Time? I'm a bit surprised, tbh. Certainly makes it clear that they won't tolerate meta dominance to that degree, which I suppose is a good thing?

I'm glad that Oko is gone. Once he dropped (on turn 2), if you didn't have an immediate answer, you lost.
I can understand OUaT as it made for a very reliable start if you had it in your opening hand. Green already has some good card finding tools it can use, so it shouldn't miss OUaT too much. I guess being able to cast it for free was kind of a mistake, but thematically it was a great idea because all good fairy tales begin with Once Upon a Time...
Veil is a wierd choice though. It gives you one turn of protection against two colours and a few other minor effects. Hardly game breaking in the way that Oko is. I guess the guy doing the ban lists is a Dimir Control player.

Having clearly not had enough MtG today, I booted up Arena this evening. Most games were fairly standard, but I just had one awesome game.
My opponent had a couple of creatures in play and the dropped Villis, Broker of Blood. In my turn I responded with Ob Nixilis, the Hate Twisted and offed one of his smaller critters. Death by Card Draw is not something I'd seen before.

I had to look that up, but when I did...

good gawd, that must've been epic. Hell, even if I'd been on the receiving end of that it woulda been fun

As for me, less interesting, but I managed it with 5 hours to go :D

On the down side, as soon as I tried my first platinum game, I lost a match for the first time. It was against gruul stompy - I just couldnt deal with his Questing Beast, as I couldn't find any of my counterspells (plus, eventually he got out domri, who makes creatures uncounterable anyway.) It finished 2/1, so at least I salvaged some dignity. Still, I'm happy with Platinum. Havent done that for a good long while.

I dunno if you saw this (and indeed, have Amazon Prime) but you can get a free deck with a Lili in it if you either already have Prime or sign up for a free trial.

New state of the game news.
Yay, Dominaria Draft! I don't have many cards from that set.
Boo, Brawlidays entry fee is waaay too high.
Meh, the other announcements don't really bother me much.

initial thoughts:

    :D :D

ermageeeeeeerd! It's Rhys the frickin REDEEMED!

I got about that far down the announcement and had a little nostalgia flake out.

He's one of the very first cards I ever got. Plus, he's damn good. Ahhhhh, elves-a-go-go

second thoughts:

Brawliday event: Yeah, that's kinda pricey. I'll probably give it a go, but only because I've been quite diligent in saving up gold.

Historic Oko, Field, OUAT, Veil - see ya! Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out...

Good. They were just as bloody stifling in historic as they are in every single other format they used to be legal in.

Historic Artisan - meh, fine. Might play it.
Dominaria draft - hmmn. Might play it. Trying to save up for Theros, though...
Historic challenge - berloody hell. That's an expensive entry fee for a format where I'm likely to get slapped out pretty quick. Pass.

Deck sorting: Halleluja!

Have you seen the new Ashiok, Nightmare Muse card from Theros? That looks like a fun card if you're a Dimir player. Combine it with the WAR version of Ashiok and you'll barely need a deck of your own, you'll be playing your opponent's best cards. :D

yeah, I saw that. Pure Dimir filth

Also, lovely alt art on that card.

I'm quite interested in the new Theros block, actually. Gods and the underworld and all that jazz could make for some cool art and interesting play space. I'm considering just buying a deckbuilder's toolkit or bundle to get some of those lands, too. Blooming nice, they are.
