I've only had two runs at draft so far, I've not been in the mood for Arena of late. I managed a 2-3 and a 6-3, which wasn't bad. Clerics seemed to come up a lot. My 6-2 game was against clerics actually. Unfortunately the RNG had decided that I had received more than enough lands in my first few games, so I got stuck on 2 lands (of the same colour) for my opponent to leisurely build his board and then stroll over and crush me.

To make things up to me, the RNG flooded me the next three games in a row. Needless to say I switched off at that point and found something else to do.

hmmn. Sounds a bit grim. I've been a bit disillusioned with MtG lately too, most likely due to the negativity floating around the interwebs about the secret lair/standard bannings/outlook for the future. Drafting has kinda improved things a bit, but I'm still nothing like as hyped as I was a couple months or so ago.

I suspect, speaking for myself, that being stuck at home is starting to get to folks. I really need to get out and see people more, virus or not. I find myself spending my time planning edh decks, building them (whilst spending as little as possible on them - that's part of the "game" for me), but when I finally do sleeve them up, instead of a feeling of satisfaction at a well crafted deck, I just feel a sense of pointlessness when I slot it onto the shelf beside all the other decks that havent yet seen play. It's all getting a bit frustrating, tbh. *le sigh* Hopefully things will improve in the nearish future. I mean, I appreciate that things could be worse - I talk to my folks in Scotland most weekends, and it's certainly no picnic over there just now, but still, summat's gotta change, I reckon.

quite enjoyed some historic games this evening. I'm a bit drafted-out, which is fine, as that's par for the course at this point in the season. I have most of the cards in the set, and a fair few wildcards for brewing with, so 's all good. I went back to playing my UB historic zombie deck. It's really surprisingly effective, at least at gold rank. Got in a good couple of Gary headshots for 15+ damage each time. Verra satisfying, yes it was

State of the Game is up for November.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2020-11-10

So it seems that WotC is finally going to patch the gaping holes in the game. Woo!
Also Kaladesh Remastered! It looks like they're going all in on human drafting and Bo3. Sadly I prefer bit drafting and Bo1. Boo. Sealed is only available for 1 week as well. Double Boo. At least we get a code for one free booster and free basic lands. WotC is going to bankrupt themselves with this uncharacteristic generosity. /s.

Some other stuff about competitive events, blah, blah, blah.

And finally Historic Brawl may be, sort of, perhaps becoming a possible thing. I won't be entering the paid event, but I may poke around the free queue. I suspect that it will be largely the same 2-3 netdecks, but who knows.

bugfixes: good.

free pack/lands: aye, fine, thankyouverymuch

competitive events: I'm nae convinced. I've had way too many dodgy drafts where I was screwed by a bad card pool to risk 15k gold on what'd likely be at best 3 wins or something. Plus I have no idea how to sideboard in draft.

no BO1 Kaladesh draft: meh, it was the same for amonkhet, so I'm not surprised. Disappointed, sure, but not surprised. I have a draft token just now, so I'll use that, most likely, and then maaaaaaybe pay gems for a couple more drafts. Basically I'll do what I did for Amonkhet (ie spend wildcards on the cool shit...)

Historic Brawl: Nope, not gonna pay for something that should be there anyway. Will play the heck out of it once it's there for free, though. I'm not too hopeful about the variety of decks I'll see, though, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.

huzzah! It's working again :) Many thanks to the boffins who got the back end working again :)

Anyway, I've just been puttering around a bit in Arena. I've been on a bit of an Esper control binge recently, and while it's far from a top deck at the mo, it's always very satisfying to hold your ground at 1 life for many turns, then finally squeeze a win out of it. I also did a few Kaladesh drafts, which while fun, were no better or worse than any other set's draft, and since they cost 10k a pop, I'm likely done with them, unless I get really bored or something.

Incidentally, did you see teh codes for the Bob Ross lands? If not, here they are:

plains : DelightfulMeadow
island : IslandWilderness
mountain : MoveMountains
forest : TreeFriend
swamp : HappySwamp

I also went and bought the secret lair bundle for a hundred bucks. It's a lot, I know, but I'm not buying booster boxes now, and the seb mckinnon and metal ones are definitely things I want. The Bob Ross lands and the box o rocks are less appealing, but I can always sell em. Shipping was far more reasonable this time around, btw. My Bitterblossom one was 30usd (!) but all 4 of these were like 15-16usd all in, which I feel is acceptable.

I’ve been a bit quiet here of late, mostly because I’m getting a bit fed up with arena. My favoured esper control is just not doing the business in historic. Couldn’t even get out of gold. So, I built (and wildcarded) a new Jeskai control deck. And...it’s just not doing it for me. What, exactly, does Jeskai Narset do? That valakut discard/hand refill card? What’s the point? I mean sure, on that one rare time you’ve got big Tef’s emblem out it’s a board wipe, but other than that? Me no likey :|
So I built (and wildcarded) an artifact untap blue combo wombo deck thing. Again, kinda meh. I mean, there was that one time my opponent scooped when he realized what deck it was. I suppose it was nice that at least one of us knew what was going on :?

And eventually, after a few weeks of getting less and less interested, I tried my ol’ historic zombie deck.

There is nothing quite so satisfying as watching an opponent double block your Phyrexian Obliterator with two 4/4s. He even paused just before proceeding to the damage step, like he was thinking about reconsidering. My inner monologue was all “nah, mate. Ya don’t wanna do that”

But nope. He did.

And it was glorious :D

Moral of the story: stick with zombie tribal. This is the way 🧟‍♂️ 🧟‍♂️ 🧟‍♂️

Mr P. Obliterator is a fun chap to have around.
Some days decks just seem to stop working even though none of the cards have changed. It's wierd.

Personally I seem to be running into a lot of Ramp Ugin/Ullamog (take your pick), Craterhoof Elves and the ever present Muxus deck. Occasionally I'll come across some cool Jank deck, but there is a lot of repetition in the Historic queues, despite the large card pool.

This thread seems to have been a bit quiet recently, luckily the January State of the Game is here to give us something to discuss.

https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2021-01-21

Or not. It's just Kaldheim and the launch of Arena on (high spec) Android devices. My phone won't run it sadly, and even if it would, I'd need to be somewhere with free wi-fi to really enjoy it.

On the plus side, Historic Anthology 4 is at the top of the In Development chart. Hopefully we'll get some more fun cards to build around.

hmmn. Nothing too shocking there, but nothing terrible, either.

Historic Anthology 4 is welcome, as is the possibility further down the road for Pioneer Masters. Everything else is pretty much aye-fine-moving-on level stuff.

On the plus side, the kaldheim board looks pretty, I guess?

And also I suppose we'll be seeing an influx of players on mobile platforms, which has both good and bad aspects.

Overall...*shrug* ok, I guess?

Incidentally, I'm currently on mastery level 124 with 6 days to go. Will he make it? Stay tuned to find out...
