Needed - Old GW Calathan Brown Foundation Paint

Postby kojibear on Mon May 04, 2015 11:34 pm

Hi everyone I have been using Calathan Brown from the old citadel range for my exodite project. I am almost out of the stuff and from what I saw at yellow submarine store, the new colour range doesnt have it :(

Do any of you have some I can pay or trade for?

Cheers :)

Mournfang is close, but a little deeper and darker. It shouldn't make too much difference though.

I have a little over 1/2 a pot left. It's yours if you want it.

I suspect "foundation paint" is just acrylic gouache in a bottle with a price hike. I have some yellow , forget what brand, the standard stuff at the art store, that covers black in two coats no problem.

The GW foundation paints were awesome good. Much as I dislike a lot of things about GeeDubs, I can't fault their foundation paints. I miss my mechrite red :(

I'd be surprised if they were gouache, cos as I understand it gouache is designed to fill in little irregularities in canvas and smooth out the surface, and that's exactly what we don't want our paint to do.

I believe either Vallejo or ArmyBuilder do a foundation range. Maybe even both of em. Might be worth checking out?

Gouache is just opaque watercolor paint. Heavier, denser coarser pigment. Maybe you are thinking of gesso? That's the stuff you use to prime a canvas with.
These days they make an "acrylic" gouache that is water insoluble once it dries. I've only used the one yellow and that only on some small vehicles and my quad gun.
