Getting started

Postby Hopeful_monster on Tue May 31, 2016 6:55 am

Hi
Just getting restarted with wargaming after a 20ish year gap. All my previous models are still in Britcit (and probably have been given to charity by the rents), so looking for some models to get me started. I've been playing a few skrimish games with borrowed mini's and paper cut outs.
So what am I looking for?

Post Apocolytic stuff
Been playing This is not a test with a friend so anything of the Fallout, Mad Max vibe. Retro power armour, carvanners, tribals, cannibal Hillbillies, or something raidertasitic.

Generic Fanatsy
A wonderful oxymoron I know but I've been recomended Frostgrave and Hunters of the Ruin as fanstay skirmish games to try. So need some models for them.

Basicily I'm looking for cheap models to get a feel for the games before investing in more specialised (and expensive) ones. Don't care if they are painted or a bit battle damaged.

You play This Is Not A Test? Great. It's a fantastic game.
I have a couple of sprues of Wargames Factory Survivors that I can part with. They are more Zombie Apocalypse rather than Nuclear, but you should be able to get some use out of them.

I can also provide either Zombies, Skeletons or Elves (All Warhammer minis of varying vintage) that you can use for Hunters of Ruin. (Probably the greatest fantasy skirmish game ever written in my humble opinion).

the beauty of Frostgrave is that you can use pretty much any fantasy minis to play it. It's designed for standard human archetypes, but there's nowt to stop you from putting down a bunch of elves, goblins, beastmen or whatever, as long as it's reasonably clear which is the wizard, archer, thug, etc.

I have 20 assorted undead and 20 Apocalypse survivors. You can have the lot for 4000 Yen.

A sense a kindred spirit here.
If you like post-apoc, we have a pretty regular group of Gorkamorka playerz around these parts. The Britcit reference, make me think you might be partial to Dredd. Even a couple of us 'mericans play.

While Dredd and Gorka are on the list of things to look into, i'm trying to do one thing at a time. Get a TNT mob ready, then a HoR/ Forstgrave crew. I'm also looking at getting the Merc's Recon game when it's back in stock.
