The Gauntlet - February

Post by Primarch » Wed Jan 31, 2018 9:55 pm

Ok, so maybe January's Gauntlet proved a little to daunting for some, but February is your chance to make amends.

When playing on big tables, I've often found that it's the little things that help bring the game to life. Bushes, trees and rocks help break up the large expanses of green gaming mat and from time to time may provide key models with cover as they advance across the tabletop. These small pieces of scatter terrain don't need to be natural features. They could be a stack of radioactive barrels, a patch of rubble or a magical vortex that devours the souls of any who stray to close. They don't need to be big, 40mm or so should suffice to embellish your tabletop with character and charm.

The Gauntlet for February is:
Stage 1 - One small piece of scatter terrain
Stage 2 - Six small pieces of scatter terrain
Stage 3 - Twelve small pieces of scatter terrain
Stage 4 - Twenty small pieces of scatter terrain
Stage 5 - Thirty small pieces of scatter terrain

Well, I got some trees done so far.

I based them on metal washers to give them some heft on the tabletop after blatantly stealing the idea from Pikey. 8-)

I did the same, it works a treat - only way to improve it would be to make the scatter bases out of sheets... of... magnet...

I just realized I have to run to the home center tomorrow!

I didn't get quite as much done as I had hoped, but I did knock out a few more bits of scatter terrain.
First up, some lamp posts. I figure I can use these for Malifaux as well as 40K as I scraped off all of the extra skulls. :D

And some rocks for my slow moving Anglo-Afghan War collection.

I got a bit of scattery terrain done this month: All of this is from TTCombat - a couple generators that I've already shared, and some nicely-stacking storage tanks that I just finished up tonight.

All 3 are sort of in a fuzzy area between traditional scatter terrain and full-on buildings, but as I expect they'll be deployed in a scatter-y way I'll submit 'em! (The pallets and crates you can see behind the hybrids, and the cute little forklifts that go with them, will be on bases as discrete scatter terrain bits, but as per usual they're not done yet, heh.)

They're nice kits! I think Sarissa is my favorite MDF terrain company for a variety of reasons, but TTCombat is a close second. I may make an effortpost and compare as soon as I get my Miniature Scenery stuff painted up.

No time for lollygagging or dilly-dallying then. You've got some catching up to do. :D
