Gauntlet 2.0

Post by Karantu » Fri Oct 23, 2020 11:30 pm

I just noticed this part of the forum and since it seems to be abandoned I shall be commandeering it. Anyway I was thinking of probably running it as a 2-month long thing with a theme and seeing how it goes. I'd like to know what you guys think so it would help if you could fill in this form.

Anyway it's been a while since I mentioned it so I'm going to arbitrarily decide to start the first round of whatever this is. Feel free to fill in the survey or post here if you have any feedback/questions.

So the first round of the Gauntlet 2.0 is going to be from today till Jan-17.
The theme is "Boots on the ground" and the only limitation is that is has to be an "infantry" unit of 3-10 models.
It can be from any game system and it doesn't need to be a complete squad so as long as you paint up at least 3 infantry sized models that should be fine.

I'm not going to force people to post pictures of unpainted models with timestamps since I trust everyone will act fairly.
Once you've painted up your submission, post a few (1-3) pictures here to enter.
Everyone on the forum is free to participate and on Jan-18 I will compile all the pictures and create a poll for everyone to vote for their favorites.

※Note: Boots not required.

3 models in 2 months? I think I can manage that.

I'm in!

I look forward to seeing what game system you pick your miniatures from and how you interpret the theme.

I wanted to set the participation bar as low as possible with the theme being as open as possible and the time limit being long enough for people to buy and build models if they needed/wanted to. Hopefully its a simple enough starting point since I'd like to iterate and make improvements depends on how it goes.

Just summarizing the last bit: Since most of the Japanese players in the group don't frequent the forums and since I really want to include them too, I thought about posting it on twitter as well. But, I'm worried that things might get a bit out of hand so if anyone has any ideas or opinions on that I'd love to hear them.

DMing on Twitter might help! Might take some clicking around to figure out everyone's handles though.

I do need to do some ground pounders so I'll certainly throw some photos in, even it'll just be the normal contrast job

I just realised I forgot to post in this thread!

It sounds really fun, so I might have a go. I'm not very good at painting, but it sounds like a good time anyway!

@Mattb - Being good at painting isn't a requirement when it comes to painting your minis. Unless you're entering the Golden Daemon or Crystal Brush, high technique, precision painting is not really important*.
An army painted to the best of YOUR skill will always look better on the table than unpainted figures, and that's what this challenge is about, getting more minis done.

As for myself, I have a bunch of minis prepped and ready to go. Hopefully I'll have something to post next week.

*Of course, I'm not a great painter either, so I may be biased on this.

An Infantry unit? How about an infantry horde?

And the whole gang.

@Primarch, Sure, why not. They fit the criteria in every other way so I don't see anything wrong with there just being a few more.

@Matt, sorry for the late reply but just like Primarch already stated this contest is all about getting your minis painted regardless of your skill level.

Anyway, I've finally picked which models I want to do and gotten them primed. Hopefully I'll have them done in a week or so. There's still plenty of time but if anyone else wants to participate feel free to post your entries here as soon as you'd like.
