Since there's a lot of Bolt Action tank talk going on, I thought I might start a thread for the Armoured Platoon pdf..
http://www.warlordgames.com/downloads/p ... atoons.pdf
.. and perhaps, encourage some mechanised list ideas. The BA tank war book is due in August of course, but I imagine any lists we might put together in this thread (if anyone has a go) will still be useable in that. Why not try to make a few vaguely historical forces in 1000 pts? Eh? There should be transport for any infantry included, and there ought to be at least one infantry unit and one support unit of some kind.
For mid to late war, I suppose we might need say 1250 points at least to make an interesting list.
Anyway, I thought I'd kick off by posting an idea for a BEF early war armoured platoon I had some time ago. I think it's legal in terms of the rules in the pdf..and if nothing else, it illustrates what's possible in only 1000 points if you put your mind to it.
BEF Armoured Platoon
All units inexperienced unless otherwise stated.
1-Matilda II, Command Vehicle
2-Matilda II
3-Matilda II CS
4-Matilda II CS
5-InfantrySection, 10 men, rifles, lmg, riding in..
6-bedford truck
7-InfantrySection, 10 men, rifles, lmg, riding in..
8-bedford truck
9-Forward observer riding in..
10-Tilly
11-Medium Mortar team, riding in..
12-Bren carrier
Total 982pts, 12 dice
It would be easy to jettison a Matilda and make the infantry regular, and upgrade a few other units. Anybody thought about a Blitzkrieg list? I daresay a few Panzer 38ts are possible in 1000 points.

As I will be using Tamiya, I don't have a lot of choices, especially for earlier tanks. I will look over what I have, but it will probably be Normandy era vehicles in my list.

Re: Armoured Platoons at 1000pts
There are Panzer II and Panzer 38t boxes made by Tamiya, which were the mainstay of the German army.
But, I will also be staying in the LW era, not that I dislike the idea of early war, but I don't want to have a large number of tanks that can only be used for a very specific scenario. Anyway, I am trying to keep my purchases from ballooning. So at sometime I might purchase a Tiger or Panther to paint up.

Re: Armoured Platoons at 1000pts
I have a burgeoning interest in the Early war BEF growing out of my Home Guard curiosity, so I would really like to try the BEF list above (on reflection, with at least 1 Matilda I) but you're right. Job, it's only really going to make sense against a German early war list, so if I ever try it out I would probably have to prepare an early war German list too. And buy all the necessaries So who knows if that will ever happen.
Although, speaking of early war Germans - On the XXX Corp thread I mentioned the warlord competition to write a 1000 pt Armoured Platoon list. The runner-up was the one I posted, a British Market Garden style Armoured list. I found the winning list, which follows, also very nice. I thought it might be of interest. Also it could oppose my BEF list.
1,000 Point German Early War Armoured Platoon
Command Vehicle:
Panzer 38(t) Regular - 160 points
Compulsory Vehicles:
Panzer 38(t) Regular - 135 points
PanzerJager I Regular - 115 points
Additional Support:
Panzer I Sig33 Regular - 155 points
9 Waffen SS (Early) 2 SMG - 123 points
251/1 C Hanomag Regular - 89 points
9 Waffen SS (Early) 2 SMG - 123 points
251/1 C Hanomag Regular - 89 points
Total 989 points - Since warlord posted the points on their site, I haven't removed the values.
4 Tanks, 2 units of elite soldiers in transports. Not bad for 1000 pts!

Re: Armoured Platoons at 1000pts
MG would probably fit my interest more at this time, although I'm personally fond of the panzer 38t. The French are also very tempting. Anyway, I am known to slide on my resolutions to avoid purchases as Prim is so oft to point out to me, but at this time I'm trying to finish the 28mm StuG I have on top of the 15mm one and many other models I own.

Re: Armoured Platoons at 1000pts
@Job - There are Panzer II's, but no 38t's in 1/48 by Tamiya, or any other plastic company that I know of.
I own a Panzer II, but as my Germans are all in late war gear and since all my other tanks (2x Panzer IV-J's, a Tiger, a Marder III-M, an 8-Rad and a Puma) are all mid-late war, I don't see myself doing anything earlier with them. Honestly, I think that between us we ought to settle on one theatre/operation as the basis for future games. I'm probably going to base my armoured list around one of the Kampfgruppes during Market Garden and work from there as I have minis for that period. At some stage my U.S. airborne will be done for that operation as well.
Of course, I can still field my Germans as an Italy or Eastern Front list as well if I need to play against Soviets or Maoris.
