Bolt Action Miniatures

Post by Primarch » Wed Jun 08, 2011 6:44 am

Huzzah, my first shipment of Bolt Action minis came through from Maelstrom.
Bolt Action is the name of Warlord Games 28mm WW2 range of models.
At £20 for 25 multipose plastic models, they are a good deal I think. The models are realistically scaled so they look small compared to GW (which are 'heroically' scaled), and the plastic isn't quite as soft and malleable as GW's but the quality is still good, the level of detail is acceptable and the variety in the box set is nice. All the models are multipose and come with separate weapons so you can equip them how you want.
Here are a couple of snaps of my test model.

Now I'm just waiting on my metal Russian infantry. :D

Well, since I stopped buying GW models at £3 per model and started buying from other companies at £0.80 per model I found I could buy over 3 times as much stuff for the same price.

Stop playing 40k at 3 hours per game and start playing SA at 30 mins a game?

Anyway, I'm really happy with these Bolt Action figures.
Anyone up for some 28mm WW2 style games?

Let me build up my collection first.
I have 5 germans (of the 25 I bought) assembled and I'm still waiting on the Russians I ordered.
As and when I have enough to play, we can set something up.

In the meantime, Dust Tactics is an awesome WW2-esque game that I thoroughly recommend.

Yep, the models are quite nice.
Did you prefer the army, the airborne or the marines? Bearing in mind that I so far have Germans and Russians on order, the airborne or army would be good choices. I know that Warlord have made 'greens' for the Japanese so maybe in the future a Pacific War game may be do-able.
I have a few different rulesets that I would like to try, a full-sized army would be around 40-50 infantry (or two of Warlord's starter boxes) and a couple of vehicles. However a small scale game is certainly possible.

Warlord's vehicle ranges are ok, but I'm planning to use Tamiya. They dont have as many options (though they are expanding their range), but they are considerably cheaper and roughly the correct scale. I'm going to compare some 1/48 scale Tamiya figures next to my 1/56 scale Warlord figures and see if they are close enough to use the vehicles and crew without causing too many problems.
