The Way Forwards for NagoyaHammer

Post by Primarch » Thu Jan 01, 2026 4:26 am

As you might see in my New Year's Resolution post, I want to rebuild NH as a site people want to frequent and use on a regular basis. I have a few ideas about how to achieve that, but I am also looking for suggestions and input from the community as a whole.

Over the next few days, I plan to push pieces of the forums around to change the emphasis and focus somewhat. With Discord fulfilling the role of a regular chat space, I see NH becoming more of a hobby archive and reference point. So, I'll be making the painting and hobby blog sections a bit more prominent. I'd also like to set up a space for players to introduce themselves, their interests and the games they play.

I would also like to ask for volunteers to be 'game evangelists' for their chosen systems. The Other Dave is a prime example of this with his efforts to promote Underworlds and Titanicus. If there is a system that you love, models you think everyone should be buying, or a game that you'd like to see more people playing, be like The Other Dave. I'll be putting up a space for this type of thing shortly.

Aside from that, if anyone has any thoughts, suggestions or ideas, please post them below 👇. I'd like to see our little community grow even more.

I agree in principle, but OTOH I've been probably-annoyingly evangelizing Underworlds for 8 years now and haven't actually gotten any NH folks to bite, so. But I'll keep doing it nonetheless.

For the forum in general, I think (and your post suggests you probably know this) that there's just too much forum here for the size and activity of the userbase. A very small number of relatively active but maybe unfocused threads might be better for community-building and engagement than a whole bunch of tightly-focused but mostly-empty sub-forums.

Yes, I have noticed that even when it was at its peak, large sections of the site had the digital equivalent of tumbleweeds rolling through them...

Eh now, hang on there un petito minutio, 🤨 I played Underworlds pretty enthusiastically until GW pushed me out with their "actually let's not be a deck-building game anymore" shenanigans. And I'm still keen to get into AT, assuming I can do so and continue to avoid interacting with GW in any way 😁
current (2019) hobby interests
eh, y'know. Stuff, and things

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

I was recently reading the free new rules for Dropzone and Dropfleet and thinking to give those games another shake.
If you want people to evangelize more game systems, I can try to be noisier about doing that!
Life is busy, so I can't promise much, but I can try.

If they are games you want to try to get others to play, then by all means. Don't feel that you have to do something if you are short on time. This is purely a volunteer thing.

No, no, I don't mean to denigrate. :D I'm very glad you decided to give AT a punt, and while we disagree on that characterization of UW 2nd edition, I appreciate that you were into the game. :) (It should also be said that Tallgeese is interested in UW but has work on Saturdays when we have our meetups, and Yellowstreak is also in the 3d-printer-enhanced AT-curious club.)
