June Games Day - 6/18 at e-able Nagoya

Post by The Other Dave » Sun May 28, 2023 11:55 pm

Hi all,

The May games day will be Sunday, June 18th, at e-able as we've been doing for a bit - back up on the 3rd floor this time. Note that this is the 3rd Sunday in June rather than the 4th! As usual we'll have the room from 9 to 4:30, and it looks like the 500 yen fee will still be covered by overages from last year!

I guess the big elephant in the room is "will there be rules out for 40K 10th yet?" and discussion the other day seemed to settle on "maybe they'll give us the rules the day before" as a safe bet. So I suppose a lot of people will want to wait a week or so to make solid plans, as apparently we're getting a two-week warning on the release.

As for me, I'll probably only be able to come in the afternoon again. If people are playing 10th I'll bring along my Death Guard, if not I'd happily give someone (*cough* Tyranii-chan *cough*) a demo of Titanicus, or I could try and cobble together 1000 points of Stormcast or Goblins for AoS.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Given Leviathan is not up for preorder this week* I'm actually doubting we'll have anything physical in our hands by then. Electronic maybe, more complete leaks almost certainly, but no chonky rulebook or cards.

If 10th is playable I'll want to play it but it's going to be difficult to plan ahead for that. Other than that I might want to give the Votann a last hurrah with their 9th book** and I'd be very much up for AOS shenanigans - can do whatever size with Stormcast, and of course Warcry would be easy as it would just use a subset of those models.

* Instead it's a lot of Underworlds, which would be exciting if it wasn't delayed in Japan.
** Apart from getting one last really good grudge in I have a lot of primed dorfs that I could use provocation to finish.

It's sort of everything at once, isn't it? I'm probably going to hold off on the starter set at this rate.

I should be in attendance this month. I'm good for Battletech, Bolt Action, Saga (Vikings or Magic), or 30K. Any takers?

I said I'd probably be able to come, but I assumed that the date would be the 25th. I probably can't make the 18th, but if that changes, I'll post back here later.

Looks like an official 6/10 preorder for Leviathan, and 6/24 in stores, so I guess we probably won't see any rules (officially) in time for games day. *sad trombone sound*

Can't make it this month. Hope to see you next month.

So as it looks like we'll have 10th edition rules and indices (but probably not combat patrol rules?), what's the consensus? A whole bunch of 500 point games to collectively figure out the rules? A smaller number of 1000 point games to get a more-accurate feel for 10th As She Is Played? I sort of suspect we'll need to think seriously about table real estate in our plan-making.

I still need to investigate feasibility at this end, but I'd really like to make it up this month. My attendance is very nebulous at this point, but for now I'd just like to raise my hand and remind people that I exist

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...
