Nagoya Underworlds Meetups Thread
Hi all,
Here's a thread for me to post news about the local Underworlds meetups - I'll give "letting people know" a go again since we'll be meeting locally instead of up in Ichinomiya, and there's a new edition out so folks might want to give the game a look.
Basically, we've moved our monthly Ichinomiya meetings (on the second Saturday of each month) to the Nagoya Osu Warhammer store until further notice. The manager seemed delighted to have us and it should be more convenient for the most of us in the group who don't live in Ichinomiya (sorry, Jye) plus it'll be easier to bring in new players - the new edition launch day mini-event the other week had like a dozen people show up. Everyone but me and Jye in the group is Japanese, so expect to exercise your Japanese-language gaming chops, but everyone's extremely chill and helpful and in the end, if you'll let me put my language teacher hat on, wargaming is the kind of high-context setting that's great for language practice anyway. The store opens at 11 and closes at 7 on Saturdays - I expect I'll be there at opening but not stay much past 5 or so most times.
December's meeting is scheduled for the 14th, which unfortunately I won't be able to attend because I'll be in the middle of the 24-hour journey from the States back home for work, but feel free to poke your head in and see what's what.
Technically, we can't make reservations for store space more than a month out, just in case there's a GW-mandated event on the day in question, but provisionally the January day (which I will be attending) would be Saturday the 11th. I'll update once reservations are confirmed.

Just heartbroken Ichinomiya's many virtues are going unappreciated! Tacos are not a bad consolation prize though and I should really try that Brazilian chicken place too.
Would encourage anyone curious to drop by - as Dave said playing in Japanese is pretty easy and even if you're not confident obviously the two of us will be happy to give you a game or three in English. We also always have spare decks and teams (also in English ) so no need to even pick up a paintbrush before giving it a go.
Second Saturday of the month seems like prime time to pick up the mini of the month too

I will miss that yakitori place! Playing in a tatami room, not so much.

Re: Nagoya Underworlds Meetups Thread
Something else that occurred to me today - it's also worth noting that if one wanted to, oh, say, try out the game using a warband they'd bought for the previous edition but don't have cards for the new one, by January both Jye and myself should be able to bring warband cards and warscrolls to lend out for any warband that's ever been produced!Jye Nicolson wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 5:21 amWe also always have spare decks and teams (also in English ) so no need to even pick up a paintbrush before giving it a go.
Anyhoo, I'll update the thread again when January's meetup day is decided for sure.

Re: Nagoya Underworlds Meetups Thread
OK, we are confirmed for January 11th for our next Underworlds meetup at the Nagoya Osu store! I should be getting there pretty much at store open at 11, and staying 'til 5 or 6? The only cost is the danger of being surrounded by models and paints to buy. As I said in an earlier post, if you have models Jye or I will be able to set you up with cards, and if you don't have models we can set you up with models too.

A quick invitation for interested parties: This Friday night (the 3rd) the Osu store will be having an "on the way home from work Underworlds night" thing, and Jye and I are planning on going, so come along if you want a demo - I'll probably get there 5 or 5:30-ish?

Re: Nagoya Underworlds Meetups Thread
Thanks to jus for dropping by on Saturday and listening to Jye and I evangelate about the game.
Next Saturday meetup is confirmed to February 8th, and I'll pop in and let the thread know if I go to any Friday night Underworlds things as well.
Also, this seems like a good place for it - the next warband is a bunch of goblins and their (relatively) tiny troll friend and it's very much my jam:
(The two guys dressed as a squig are pretending to be the troll's pet so they can lead him around.) Say what you will about GW, they have a winning aesthetic with their goblins and aren't afraid to lean into it. At the same time will release a deck that focuses on getting use out of very small fighters, so it should work well with these guys as well as the other two goblin warbands, and probably the skellingtons too.

I love that team. How good is squig lion dancer?
The rivals deck feels like it has a good niche too.

Between these guys, Zarbag's getting a well-deserved nerf that should make them less oppressive to bring out, and wanting to see how the heck the Looncourt actually work, I'm very much looking forward to only ever playing goblins from here on in.
