I had fun making a couple of 500 point lists today just to get a feel for it. Then looked online and saw a lot of balance complaints of the 'this weapon is useless, only take this item, max these out' variety.
In view of that, do you Mordheimers usually play the ruleset as is (fine with me) or are houserules a thing (also fine) as a lot of people seem to use them?
I also wondered which warband(s) do you feel tend to be the most varied and fun?

There is a lot of balance issues and an issue with "cookie cutter" warbands with the original rules. Here are the house rules me and Jus were trying out back when we were playing Mordhiem. As for most varied and fun? Go with what suits your fancy. Can't beat Witchhunters for coolness. Two words, Solomon Kane. (The complete series are on Project Guttenberg, along with every other damn thing ever written by Robert E. Howard, by the way.)

HOUSE RULES OF THE DAMNED

I'm sure most folks agree the game needs a few rules tweaks to balance things out. Here is what we are going to try.

1. Use "Option B" from the Experimental Armour and fighting with two weapons from Specialist games.

2. pg 24- Change "Dagger" to "Dagger, Club, or Staff"
3. pg 24- Change "Hammer, staff, mace or club" to "Warhammer, mace"
Change the cost of "Warhammer, mace" from "3gc" to "5gc" for all Warbands.

4. pg 28- Change "Short Bow" Maximum range to 18".

5.pg.29- Change "Sling" Maximum range to 16".
Add +1 Enemy armour save to Special Rule

6.pg. 33 Remove "Move or Fire" from "Handgun".
Add "Concussion" to Special Rules.

7. pg. 37 To "Lucky Charm" add When a lucky charm is purchased make a note that it is new and untried. If the very first attempt to avoid a hit is failed, scratch the charm from the hero's equipment roster. It obviously wasn't lucky at all. If the very first attempt is successful, the charm proves to really be lucky and will operate in all future battles as described in the rules.

8.pg. 72 Add, A Skaven warband may not start a campaign with more than 5 heros. The 6th hero may only be added if a henchman rolls, "The Lad's Got Talent".

I will try to track down the pdf (?) that's referencing. It looks interesting, not too many fixes.
I just noticed that armour seemed like an expensive layout for not much in return, but making the light armour save 5 up instead of 6 up, heavy armour 4 up instead of 5 up would be a quick fix.

Expensive armor for little return is one of the major gripes. It becomes an even worse bargain in that when you roll a natural "6" to wound you cause a critical hit, which usually bypasses armor. The "Option B" makes armor quite a bit less expensive. Maybe not historically accurate, but more playable.

As well as Kuwana you are welcome to play Mordheim in Tsu the following weekend also. I'll bring my wooden (weighs a ton) Mordheim board.
I'll be at Kuwana in October also for Mordheim action. I have the rulebook :)
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

@Ashmie - The date for this isn't sure as yet (sometime in October I bet, hence Halloween reference, eh) , but I am eager to get stuck in, and if free I'd be happy to come to Tsu for games.
I have all the witch hunter minis ready on the painting table, and have ordered some warlord celtic warhounds for a bit of flavour. I'm gonna have a pack of savage, rabid mutts snapping at nuts and guts! I have the rulebook too, now. Well worth it, even second hand.

Ah, it looks like I was a little optimistic about my schedule in October. A found out about a bunch of festivals and things to take the kids too. Halloween Mordheim will have to be..... Thanksgiving Day Dinner of the Damned! muhahaha......or something.
Also, Dungeonlord was telling me he'd be busy, so he won't be hosting the usual Kuwana Game day.
That being said, I am keen to play a bit of Mordheim. I was talking to one of the new Japanese guys last game day at Joshin, and he was saying there are some guys in the local FB crowd who are interested. We will get something started here one of these days.
