Many thanks to Ash for organising this event, and to Leslie and Rich for what was shaping up to be a good game of Talisman (apologies for bailing early) and to Joseph for being a sterling 40k opponent.
Today's 40k game was a good un. 1750pts of my pointy eared pirates vs 1750pts of Job's Night Lords (inherited from Danguinius).
Events of note included:
Turn one, top o the movement phase, my Shadow Seer makes to cast "Veil of Tears" on the Harleys. Yeaup. Double ones, first dice roll of the game. Way to explode your head, Shadowy...
My Phoenix Bomber being awesomesauce (again). That makes 2 games in a row. Interestingly, on the first turn it arrived it did bugger all. I was starting to think it had lost its mojo, but next turn it was back to wasting space marines as per last game. It may be 225 points, but damn that bugger can shoot out some killy death.
Job's Flying Daemon Prince charging my Void Singer and insta-killing him with his Hammer of Wrath attack. Poor ol' Void Singer. Out there, minding his own business, singing some void, and then all of a sudden BOOM! Daemon Prince, boots-first into the head. Ouch...
Job's Hell Blade zipping onto the table in turn 3...and getting blown out of the sky by my Firestorm. 180pts, to be sure, but them long barrelled scatter lasers certainly deliver the goods.
Holo-fields are great right up until you get an "immobilised" result on the damage chart. Then its just embarrasing.
I'm really tempted to take Wraithguard instead of Wraithblades. The blades are far more piratey but...they suck. They really do. Deep strike in, stand around, get charged by dreadnaught. Cant hurt it (S5) cant run away (fearless) dulldulldull. There's always going to be something around to mess em up, regardless of where you DS them. Wraithguard would at least be able to steamroller a squad of marines with their D-scythes before they went down.
Pirate captain - uninspiring. Cant do much without a transport option. I shall look into building a Venom for him for next time.
All in all, a fun, educational game.
