Re: January 19th, Joshin
Hopefully Konrad catches this - I may not be coming today, Badruck depending. I'm waiting for a call ATM.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Thanks to Lovejoy, Underdweller and Kojibear for the game of Bolt Action. I feel like kind of a rotter for sniping Sergeant Wilson and Corporal Godfrey, then setting Captain Mainwaring on fire. Still, Dad's Army and the Polish Airborne gave as good as they got right up to the end of the game.
And thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat or say hi.

A tragedy. ARP Warden Hodges blasted from his tower (and indeed, to atoms) by an artillery round. Godfrey (a medic, mind you) shot by a kraut sniper as he valiantly tried to assist his comrades. Sgt Wilson's head reduced to a pink-red mist by the same method a little later. That's the hun for you.
Actually very funny to see these cuddly family favourites mercilessly executed, if you grew up with the "Dad's Army" tv show.
Basically Kojibear and I had a reasonable start, then our luck and tactical acumen nosedived..we pulled some points back towards the end and it seemed that maybe, just maybe, we might draw, but it was not the be. Captain Mainwaring burning to death in his Carden Lloyd transport saw to that.
In all seriousness a fun, long, close (at times) game of Bolt Action. I learned a lot and it has given me some ideas. Thanks to Prim, Kojibear, Underdweller!

Thanks to all for the fun day of Warmahordes and Bolt Action! Bolt action mechanics seem pretty easy to pick up and engaging, what with the random activation of units on both sides. Prim managed to pull off a defeat despite playing with the apparently slightly underpowered German army. I helped

Thanks to Konrad for a fun couple games of Gangs of Nu Ork. It seems to be a basically solid ruleset - the "everything but the kitchen sink" approach is bound to cause some weird edge cases to crop up (like Marines with 1+ armor saves that ignore the first -1 of save modifier...) but you can't really go far wrong with the Necromunda / Gorkamorka ruleset. Fun!
That said, the Marine squad may actually be a bit too strong - not necessarily because it's all-powerful, because it isn't (at least if you roll snake eyes two combats in a row
), but because the other dude has to play so cautiously. I really think I may try to find some Cultists cheap on eBay (or if anyone has extra Dark Vengeance cultists kicking around here...) and make that Chaos gang I was pondering.

A big silly ton of old-skewl fun to be had in Nu Ork for sure. I coulda had you that 2nd game if was just a little sneakier. A little sneakier and packing a melta gun. I will write the Nu Ork guy and ask if it was his intention to allow armor saves to go less than 2. It might be that I honestly could not have penetrated your armor in any way without a -3 save modifier. (Or my sneaky Shotgun toting clowns with their special surprise armor negating ability.)The Other Dave wrote:Thanks to Konrad for a fun couple games of Gangs of Nu Ork. Man. Marines- those guys are not funny.
I've got mutants and pirates and old mercs and pirates that would be decent cultists in a pinch if you want to borrow some for next time. I have awesome plans for a Squat gang.

@TOD Lord Blackfang has spoken. His judgement on our less-than-1+ armor saves query is thus..
"Thanks, man. Yeah, you did saves correctly (which is to say, you did what made sense to you and you had fun!)"
Let it be written, let it be done!
