Magic the Gathering in/around Nagoya & Mie マジック
Hey all,
I've been getting back into MTG, especially the VERY fun multiplayer "Commander" format.
The problem is, most of the people I played with have moved far away or stopped playing.
SO...
I will throw several decks together.
Let's play!
マジック: ザ・ギャザリングをしましょう!
If you'd like to make a deck of your own, be my guest.
If you don't have the cards, feel free to use printed proxies.
(You can get clear card images to print from here.)
What is Commander?
(1) A great multiplayer format (3-4 players works best, IMO. 1-on-1 can be fun, too.)
(2) Build a 100 card deck choosing one legendary creature to be your commander.
(3) The commander is (almost) always available to come in and kick butt.
(4) Your deck uses only the colors of the commander.
(5) Singleton -- meaning, only ONE of any given card in the deck (the exception being basic lands). This is one of the most fun parts because it means every game plays out differently and forces you to use a real variety of cards.
(6) Start with 40 life instead of 20.
(7) Play cards you never get to play! Other formats need quick decks, and many fantastic cards never make the cut because they cost too much mana. But in Commander, even SLOoooooW cards like Mindleech Mass can be easily played.
**Full rules can be found here.
-----------------------------------------------------
Resources
1) Great guide to building a Commander deck.
2) Deck ideas & full deck lists
3) Card ideas <-- The "Top 50" cards in each color
4) Preconstructed Commander decks from Wizards

That sounds great!!
And I know a guy who would be keen too!! I reckon we could sort out a three way game easy enough.

I just sold all my cards (Thousands of them, from Beta through to Cold Snap) last month.
Sorry, but there`s just no way I`m getting back into it.

Though you could just print proxies and spend no cash aside from ink and paper.
Or I could lend you a deck.
Just sayin'

If I was lent a deck, I could see myself giving it a shot. But it's been more than 10 years since last I played, and I'm not going to let myself get sucked back into it...

He lives in Yokkaichi. He is on here (hardly ever though), and he doesn't have a mobile phone ( idiot!)Grim Ironjaw wrote:Fantastic! Yokkaichi area? Nagoya area?Spevna wrote:That sounds great!!

But it's a lot easier to print proxies that it was 10 years ago.ennui wrote:If I was lent a deck, I could see myself giving it a shot. But it's been more than 10 years since last I played, and I'm not going to let myself get sucked back into it...
(Seriously, who wants to spend $100 on a single Volcanic Island?!)
The game's arguably the best it has ever been and Commander is a LOT of fun.
Anyway, I've got 4 commander decks (increasing weekly), so lending one would not be a problem.

I can't imagine printing out several tens of sheets of paper, using up all that ink and then cutting each card out being easy. Sorry, but proxies just doesn't work for magic, at least not for me.Grim Ironjaw wrote:But it's a lot easier to print proxies that it was 10 years ago.ennui wrote:If I was lent a deck, I could see myself giving it a shot. But let me know when somethings going down, if you don't mind, I'll borrow a deck and give it a go!

Aa-ha! My friend, you've overlooked the main trick with the cutting: recruit your three-year old daughter for the task! Then it becomes daddy-daughter bonding time, develops her fine motor skills, and gets her interested in gaming, all at the small cost of a few jagged edges.ennui wrote: I can't imagine printing out several tens of sheets of paper, using up all that ink and then cutting each card out being easy. Proxying an entire deck is admitedly time consuming, but proxying just 10 or so essential (but stupidly expensive) cards saves a fortune and is quick to do.
Anyway, I'll lend you a deck.
