OK guys. The good news or the bad news?
Well the bad news is I'm divorced finally. I was in a very destructive relationship that wasn't improving and I had to get out. It's for the best for all concerned.
The good news is my apartment and I are staying, I'm rebuilding my future and chance for future happiness either alone or with someone and I'm continuing with my career and support of my son here in Japan.
So that can only mean that my apartment is now officially a full on coffee and gaming haven for Mie/Aichi Fathers and Gentlemen. Feel free to drop by any weeknight or Friday night if you guys need to get out the house and let off steam, I have many boardgames, miniature games and card games and lots of time. My door is open. Best wishes. Ash. :)

I'm sorry about the marriage, but I am happy to hear you are going to stick it out for your son.

Very sorry it turned out this way, glad you're staying for Liam, besides, not much going on back home career wise. Enjoy the gaming and hobbying and take your mind off things this summer. I'll make it down to Tsu sometime and avail you of the gaming offer. Onwards and upwards for Mr Laycock I hope.

Thanks everyone. :) Divorce is actually an end to the stress and strife so it's not as bad as it sounds. I've just found out she is holding on to the papers and debating whether to submit them. I did all I can, the ball is in her court. If she decides things are worth persevering with and wants to rebuild then that will be up to her now. It will be nothing short of a miracle if she does want to keep going. At least I've given her the option. I know I've done all I can up to this point.

Sounds like the best choice to be honest.

Have you had any discussions about custody or visitation rights. As far as I know, Japanese courts don't have joint custody, and access by the other parent is at the discretion of the one that has the child.

Edit: That may have changed since March of this year.

Not sure what's happening other than once the paper gets put through I'll be paying child support as long as I'm earning. That's something I've offered and we are having a meeting about access. I will put something in writing despite it not being much use in any court it's good for us to have a formal agreement.
Twice a month to visit if I'm lucky.
There is still an inkling that she might turn things around and give it another shot but as I said before that depends on her. When I started talking logistics of divorce she hesitated with submitting the paper. Basically paper or not we are at present seperated.
Thanks for your messages guys. Things are already calmer here. Nice to have the room to breathe again. :)
