The guy who did the Revolutions podcast (A+ military history geekery, can't recommend it enough) Mike Duncan wrote a book on Lafayette. I should give it a read one of these days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_of_T ... Revolution
I quite enjoyed it, and it's the main reason I know anything about Lafayette outside of his musical turn in Hamilton.

Oh! Got a copy you could lend me? I just finished reading/(e-booking) "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" and I could use something to rinse the taste of that out of my mouth.

I'm afraid it was on Audible and helped me through some.painting binges.

I've assembled about half my Skaventide box but I also have another Skaven Spearhead and an entire Soulblight army to put together. I really hope folks like AoS 4th ed and I definitely hope some fool with too many 40k armies doesn't end up just playing that all the time instead 🙃

It will probably take a while to get all this painted but I can't really be bothered priming right now anyway so it's build now, paint the 40k backlog slowly during meetings etc, prime in bulk in Spring. It would be good to get multiple painted Spearheads going though, it'll be a bit sad demoing with grey plastic.

I actually got some paint on the Bangarang figure I cobbled together! It's table-ready, but I'm going to go and add some decals and play with oil washes/pigment and stuff to get it good and rusty, and dusty and grimy and horrible.

I've been painting a little bit (TankFest 2024 continues), but mostly I've been Elden Ring-ening lately. I finally leveled up enough to get past the first big boss, only to discover that what he was guarding was kind of harder than he was? Still, I guess fighting inside a castle is working to get me out of some bad habits I've given myself vis a vis just spamming magic missile from horseback. I'm also glad I was able to cheese room geometry to beat a tough mini-boss who was too physically large to get through the door to his own room. Game is fun!

If he wanted to avoid an embarassing death he should have been smaller than the door.

I'm still not quite loose from Elden Ring myself, I've been through the DLC twice now but I keep reaching for it when I take a break from assembly. Too many cool new weapons to try.

Assembly wise I'm through Skaventide and on to the Soulblight Spearhead. Hoping to get them and the other Skaven Spearhead done for the weekend. Then it's many, many Vampires.

Buzzer beater for tomorrow:

Not sure they're having a good time.

I got the Soulblight and second Skaven Spearheads assembled. Still plenty of Soulblight and a few Gitz to go, then I can think about putting some paint on a bit of the already primed stuff in the backlog.

In addition to being slightly surprised that I can apparently kill (small) dragons and stuff in Elden Ring, I've been alternately finding (just in time to wrap up the army, fortunately) that I'm getting a bit bored of my Solar Auxilia color scheme for Epic*, and looking thoughtfully at the Ossiarch Bonereapers spearhead box for AoS.

*Some of this may just be work-stress-induced painting ennui, we'll see.

Wow, its a bit quiet in here isn't it.

I painted these about 2 weeks ago, I have just kept putting off posting them.
First of all, some more AWI Militia.
A bunch of plastic figures in need of a banner.

And some metal minis.

To follow those up, some Anglo-Saxons.

Recently I have been doing a bit of a stock take in my hobby room. By my count I have about 75 different projects (armies, warbands, crews, battleforces etc) of varying sizes and only 5 of those where I have painted every model for it. I haven't done much hobby stuff lately, so I have decided to try and spend more time behind a brush and try and get some of these squared away, or at least a little more advanced. I'm also going to try and post more in this thread, as it used to be a good source of hobby motivation to see that others were getting stuff done.

To that end:

Today, I spent some time working on a company of British infantry for the Anglo-Zulu War. They have been sitting primed on a shelf now for about 2.5 years, so they seemed like an easy choice to get done. I've got most of the work done on them, just a few more steps and they'll be ready for basing.
