Commander Conversion Project
Re: Commander Conversion Project
Ok, forget everything so far.
I decided that I wanted to pin my model so I took him apart, now he is the same state as when he came out of the box, except for the head. The green stuff came off surprisingly easy, I thought I had glued it down really well..
Then I started to think about the design again and came to the conclusion that I wanted to add some things.
I know it may sound expensive just for a hammer but I decided to build mine upon Cotaez' Daemon Hammer ( http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... rod1110103 )
By the way is anyone interested in any of the other models if I order this set?
I am also going to remodel the head, probably customize an original terminator one.
I am also going to add an auxiliary grenade launcher to the wrist, here's what I wanna ask you.
How would you do a grenade launcher? I searched around for some pics but didn't find any good ones, and I have never seen a GW model with an auxiliary grenade launcher like that.
Finally, do I have to add the Melta Bombs to the mini in order to get them as WYSIWYG wargear?

Re: Commander Conversion Project
The original terminator captains used to have a grenade launcher on the back of their hands. It was basically just a small box like device. It doesnt have to be anything spectacular. Since there is no 'official' Aux-GL, you can make it look like whatever you want. It can be arm mounted or maybe on the top of the armour would be good.
Grenades and Melta Bombs aren't usually required for WYSIWYG, so it is up to you if you want to include it or not.
If you do get the Inquisitor pack, I would be interested in the two mechanical looking guys if you want to trade for some marines or something.

ahahaha!I decided that I wanted to pin my model so I took him apart, now he is the same state as when he came out of the box,
with regards to the grenade launcher, if there's no official model, then you can use your imagination. you could do a wee box thing on the back of his hand, wrist, or even a predator style shoulder mounted thing. If you go for the back-of-the-hand, id recommend using green stuff and just sculpting it. You only need a wee flat box. Use the end of a piece of plastic tube (e.g like inside cotton buds or a small straw) to make the launcher tubes inside. You would use these if you wanted a shoulder or wrist mounted thing, too.
likewise, i dont think ive ever seen a model that actually had melta bombs sculpted on it except eldar fire dragons, and theyre specialist tank hunters. you dont need to model it on ig you dont want to. be wary of the model getting too "busy".
btw, you could, if you wished, also sculpt the hammer out of green stuff. Use either a thick piece of wire or thin plastic tube (you can buy this at hobby stores, btw) to make the haft, and then roll a teeeny flat piece of GS around it. Crosshatch it with a knife. Wait for it to cure. While it does, make a block of GS about the size of the hammer head. wait for this to cure, too. Now cut the hammer head into a crisper-edged shape with a knife. Add a wee bit to the butt end of the haft, and drill a hole in the hammerhead. Attach to haft.
Or, if all that seems liek too much fuss, just buy coteaz. Im sure Prim and Badruck will buy most of the bits off you
Good luck in your voyage through conversions!

Re: Commander Conversion Project
I would be glad to help you build the hammer if you would like but... buying a model for the bitz is a very fun thing to do. let me know in a PM if you would like any one on one classes on Green stuff Eric, MIJ, and Dungeon lord are very very very good if you can get either of them to show some tricks... I would love to know what they are doing. show me how they do what they do.. and I will know most of what there is to know about Green stuff modeling...

Oh yes, he's got it bad, thanks for letting me in the club.me_in_japan wrote: ahahaha! He has a bad case of conversion-itis
Welcome to the club, seb
I did the same thing to my titan a while back, and he's still in bits...
Well, at first I had plans on making the hammer myself, as that satisfies my never ending hunger for customisation the most. I tried and it didn't turn out good, but I have gained some more knowledge since then so I might actually give it a try before I buy the daemon hammer.
Let's say I want to make a piece of green stuff for my model, do you guys make the piece, let it cure and then glue it on or do you sculpt it right on to the model in the first place?
It seems to me that loose parts made out of green stuff easily comes of the model, what do you reckon is the best way of sticking it without pinning?

I think what he means is that any superglue is fine. Ignore the comments about high grade and low grade glue, you can buy decent superglue in most stores. I get mine from Daiei, a supermarket near my home. Its called Aron Alpha or something like that and comes in a yellow plastic tube.Admiral-Badruck wrote:superglue works for me... there are lot of types of superglue so be careful some are not as good as others... Agreement. I use Aron Alpha as well.Primarch wrote:I think what he means is that any superglue is fine. But I do agree with Badruck that you have to be a bit careful - some superglues have trouble setting or have poorly-designed bottles that clog up almost instantly. I've arrived at my yellow-bottle preference through trial and error. There are a lot of cheap, crappy superglues out there.

Great, thanks for all the advice!
By the way, with superglue, do you mean the liquid glue that you kind of brush on the models or do you mean superglue as in the glue consistency one that you push out like tooth paste?
