seconded. Nice one, Prim :D

@rob - i reckon that kharn is pretty damn good. Its very well blended, and the weathering is extremely good. I dont think any of those bumps and scrapes are sculpted - theyre all painted on, so far as i can tell. That's pretty high level stuff. His wounded arm is also ace, as is the general composition of the mini and the base. Way better'n I could do.

What are you talking about? That model is wicked awesome! I wish I could paint half as well as that, and its way beyond anything I've seen from you as well. (no offence). The Iron Hands model is one hell of a conversion though.

Fluff wise it is nice I am almost happy with it but it just does not do it for me I am guessing the most of the really good painters stay a way form White... My main problem with it that it is not nearly as good as the models around it... every one looks better... IMHO... If I can not do a better job than this I do not deserve to win... I must give the world a better KHARN

Three things jump out at me on the Kharn model.

1) The backpack pulls attention away from the main model
2) the gun is mono-color which detracts from the model
3) and I just see pure white which lacks depth. A really good modeler once told me that the key to white is how much grey you use. I really think you need a light grey in the recesses of the model to add depth that white alone just won't give

As the colonel says, there is a reason why good painters avoid white. Its the same with black. When you use a regular colour e.g. red you use 3 types. A dark shade for the shadows, a medium shade for the bulk of the area and a light shade for the highlights. White has no light shade and black has no dark shade, making it difficult to make them look good.

Sorry to say, but the Kharn you linked too is beyond what most people in our group can do. No offence meant, but I dont think you will be doing a better job than that. If you DO a better job you definitely deserve to win and I think Dave will be handing you the prize.

With a big happy smile on my face, too.

re: kharn, my advice would be:

1) keep the backpack, but paint it white. It shouldnt be a focal point, and should thus be done in the majority colour for the mini.

2) the gun needs shading in black inck or similar. Use oil paints if you feel compelled to do so, but make it a wash, and make it a black one. When that's dry (in about 2 days...), do the same thing with burnt umber or any dark brown. Then when that's dry (a further 2 days later) add some clour with dark purple or dark blue patches. These patches should not actually be visible per se, but they should be there. (I'd recommed regular GW washes for this, on account of them drying faster, btw...)

3) Shade the white with blue. (as you have mostly done) If you shade with grey it looks washed out and dull. The blue should be a mid blue (not a pale one) and it should ONLY be around the edges of things. for example:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2 ... 750&ref=pf

4) you need to shade the blue trim a lot more. Get some very dark blue (like this and thin it down a fair bit. Paint it neatly over all of the blue bits, wait for it to dry, and then go over all the blue bits again with ultramarine blue or whatever you did it with originally. This time, leave a smidgeon of the darker blue around the edges. This will help define the blue bits.

5) paint more neatly. There are plenty of blue bits on white areas that need to be tidied up. Especially if youre working with oils, theres no reason for these to be there as you have all the time in the world to clean them off with a clean turped brush.

if you do all of the above, then he'll be lookin' loverly in no time :)

sorry if it all sounds a bit negative, but I'm looking at it with a critical "how would I improve this if it was mine" eye. It's looking fine, really, it's just not finished yet.

well the Pistol has is still the original metal color... I have not any idea how I am going to do it yet... but I am sure I will figure it out soon.... as for the Blue shade I will keep what you said in mind... and yes he is very raw right now... I figure he will take me a good 2 months before I will even start to be happy with him... I did not think any of your advice was negative it was all honest and helpful... some of the guys on some other forums said that he looks good as is model wise I am willing to do anything to him to make him look right... I have a real Kharn Head in my bitz box I would use it but I think it is a shame to cut off the bunny ears... and to make him 30K kharn I would have to do that.... the problem I am faced with now is I am not sure there is enough Character in the head I put on him...

Ditto Dave's advice.

The only thing I would add is do the wire to the pistol and the pistol's power coil in the same colour and highlight them up to break up all the white you have on the mini.
