Looking at the crossbow dudes, you'd just need to remove the limbs of the bow and you'd have a fairly modrrn looking firearm.

The guy on the left's for Shadespire and they all have the sculpted bases - I've seen people put flock and static grass on 'em, but it never looks good, so I haven't been doing that. (That's why he's got his name on the base too.)

And the similarity of the Stormcast's, er, boltstorm pistols (no, really) to the weaponry of another type of superhuman infantry in heavy armor with ridiculous shoulder pads has been... extensively documented.

In keeping with a newly found resolve to actually be a bit more communicative this year, here is my first painted mini of 2019. Ammis Dawnguard from Nightvault. Much like Rastus, her colours look better in real life, although at least with her I reckon the difference between her armour and her robes is at least discernable.



Incidentally, I used to think that all the stormcast looked the same. It's astounding how different the male and female ones are when you look at them closely. Almost every single piece of armour is subtly (or not so subtly) different. Props to the sculptors for putting the effort in.

I keep adding paint to figures in a more or less random manner to finish my Deadzone Enforcers. Working on magnets for the arms along the way too because "fun" and my life was not complicated enough.

If you have your whole army painted it simply means that you hadn't bought enough models and it's not your whole army.

Returning to work did curtail my productivity but I managed an Enforcer Pathfinder almost done (needs base) 4 more nearly there and I'm working on Mantic's star character Blaine.

Nice work there MiJ. Just curious, which resources did you use to get familiar with and improve on your non metallic painting? Is the technique really only suited to single or a few miniatures?

@Kbear - thanks. And aha! The cunning trick to the metalic effect on that mini is...use metallic paint*

As for generally improving my nmm, I found just hanging about on the Eavier Metal facebook group supplies me with enough inspiration to last a lifetime. It's pretty time consuming, but I'm pretty sure with practice you could wet-blend your way through some passable nmm fairly quickly. I don't find it to be much more challenging than any other type of painting, insofar as laying down the paint goes. The tricky part is placing the highlights/shadows, and that really only comes from staring at metal things obsessively for hours on end.

*unless youre talking about the sword, in which case the standard way to do em is just highlight one way up half the blade, then the opposite way down the other half. This sword is a bit of a pain as it has a distinct tip to it that had to be done separately, but again, just reverse direction on the highlights/shadows and it works fine. The real tricksy stuff is when you want to introduce lights halfway up the blade...
