2009 actually! Yeah, they’re fine! I do appreciate that they’re single pieces - I wouldn’t want to collect 120 goblins if there was any assembly involved at all - it’s literally just that the detail is noticeably soft compared to modern minis.

Love the gobbos and the oni!

It's one of these cute little guys, continuing the theme of Deathguard vehicles that are too much fun not to have.

Those are monopose? I don't think I remember them. The multi-part night-goblin sprues are great for kit-bashing. I can't count how many freaks, geeks and mutants I've cobbled together from them. But yes, compared to modern GW kits, they are pretty primitive.

Yup, from the Skull Pass box set in... 7th edition? (And 2007, apparently.) Being able to get a hold of many many goblins very very cheaply is what got me into Fantasy. I will say they have faces that still hold up - they have that "concentrated malicious stupidity" look that goblins do so well in spades.

And that completes the set!

(I have another Blight Hauler to do but not urgently, especially given the size of the "minis to be played" backlog ahead of it)

In this last week I put base paints on a few more models to get everything I needed ready for today's Sunday brawl.
6 more heavy weapons teams, 2 more company commanders, and 3 tempestor primes.
I'll have to fix up a few minor mistakes and do washes later, but anyway this was good enough to play with.

I also magnetized the bases of all my infantry so I could put them on movement trays. Unfortunately, it seems the magnets I bought this time aren't as strong as my older ones (different brand), and they don't stick to the trays too well. I might have to redo everything later.

This last month's painting spree came to its conclusion just in time for my games today. I brought an infantry horde of 120 infantry, 50 scions, 2 manticores, a vindicare assassin, and assorted officers to give orders. The opponents are all bringing very competitive meta lists, so I wanted to bring something that the anti-elite armies would struggle against.

My first game was against custodes, who I beat handily. I was able to destroy their jetbikes as they came up the field and then flood the board with my troops to score points. This was a bit of a grudge matchup for me, as I've lost all games against custodes in the past - this horde list was specifically made to beat them.

Game two was against white scars, who trounced me. They unfortunately got first turn and first advanced + charged my entire center, making it pretty hard to get out of my table corner. And they screened very well against my scions so I couldn't get to objectives. Pretty bloody game on both sides, but a resounding loss on the points for me.
We did play with chess clocks, but I practiced well enough to finish about on time. And using a dice rolling app for my lasgun volleys helped quite a bit.

Ooh, love it! (I would not want to face that army, though - that's a lot of bodies to deal with, even if they are just guards-people.)

Last night I, cursing vociferously, assembled an elf team for Blitz Bowl I've had kicking around, so I can have more to prime than just the fish elves for Underworlds. They really are very fiddly models, and these days any time I assemble anything that's not easy-build I find myself wishing it was. My fingers are too fat, and my carpet too gray, for much tiny-part nonsense. I also did a bit of work on my last three Iron Golems for WarCry, as that warband has been sitting half-painted for something like a year now. I'm telling myself I should finish them up before I start on the Krab Krew.

I also got my first vaccine shot yesterday woo hoo! (My second shot is scheduled for July's games day unfortunately.)

That's an achievement in of itself, efficient play is definitely a skill you need to work to acquire, and horde armies look like hard mode! I struggle enough when I have to switch from a handful of wolf-riding lunatics to my Sisters.

The army's looking great, too!

I've been listening to the Revolutions podcast quite a bit over the weekend, I'm currently 9 episodes in to the English Civil War. Lacking any ECW minis to paint however, I have instead dug out my American War of Independence project and started on a unit of British infantry.

A bit of a "painting queue tax" before getting in to the fish elves:

These guys had been sitting half-finished in a box for more than a year - a combination of "I figured out the paint scheme and it suddenly bored me" and "I figured out that they're not nearly as good in WarCry as my trusty old goblins anyway". But now they're done and I can get started on the Idoneth!
