Gaming Mat
Gaming Mat
I want to buy/make a gaming mat, I want it for skirmish sized games so it doesn't have to be big. I see on our events many people use textile sheets, i'd prefer somehing thicker like the GW battlemat. Does anyone have any tips or advice?

Re: Gaming Mat
Zuzzy's textured latex mats are both affordable ($25 US for a 3x3 mat, $38 for 4x4, perfect for most skirmish games) and awesome-looking.

Those sure look sweet.
I also came up with an idea.. I am gonna see if I can get myself a latex/textile door mat in the appropriate size, cut it and paint it up.

Re: Gaming Mat
Well, are you thinking about this mat for home use or carrying to the gaming events? Depending on your expectations I have a GW battle mat that you may recall from the bad shedding experience after I first opened it. Well, most of the shedding is done, but now I really don't plan on using it. I expect it was intended for a permanent table rather then moving about.
Well, if you are interested I wouldn't want much for it.

The mat that I am looking for is one that I can carry with me to events.

Re: Gaming Mat
i say go with teh zuzzy one. It looks much more hard wearing than the GW one, altho youll need to paint it. (but hey! personalisation rocks!)

Re: Gaming Mat
I've heard only good things about the zuzzy mats* - one is on my (long, admittedly) list of Things To Get. Painting's no so much of a chore either, apparently. A couple passes of drybrushing and a couple thin washes and you're set.me_in_japan wrote:i say go with teh zuzzy one. It looks much more hard wearing than the GW one, altho youll need to paint it. *Except to be careful to always roll them up, as they'll take a crease if you fold them.

I've seen one example where someone very carefully cut the mat up and glued it to 2' by 2' wooden tiles. It seemed to do the job of letting him carry/store it very easily. The Other Dave wrote:I've heard only good things about the zuzzy mats* - one is on my (long, admittedly) list of Things To Get.
