CMON - this site contains everything you will ever need to know about painting things. It has some modelling stuff too, but mostly painting.

www.coolminiornot.com
look in the tutorials section

http://www.necrotales.com/necroTutorials/
nice tutorials on many things, including how to sculpt and paint mushrooms. (vital if you ever want to win a golden daemon... )

http://z11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Pro ... 08&act=idx
a variety of stuff here, ranging from noobs to multiple golden daemon award winners.

http://www.platoonbritannica.org.uk/for ... #post21311
how to use photoshop to make your minis look good.

http://www.jeremiebt.com/index.php?page=siteuk
the bloke who made that painting miniatures DVD. high level stuff, and just bonkers freehand.

This last one is where it gets a bit finicky. Rather than list a whole bunch of sites that have tutorials for different techniques (and I have a bunch bookmarked) it's often better to just google the name of the technique plus the word "tutorial" and see what comes up.

anyway, that's pretty much it, so far as tutorial stuff goes, unless you want specific tutorials for specific techniques. if you do, lemme know and ill post em.

Brushthralls is quite good as well, although they haven't updated in 9 months. Lots of nice tutorials, and a nice series of "starter box in 10 days" articles.

One guy's blog about crafting 40k scenery, but with a really, really good tutorial on casting molds of your minis.

me_in_japan wrote:interesting. Where would one get the resin for casting and the rubber for moulding from around these parts? Come to that, where would we get the lego? I'm definitely interested in moulding stuff, as I have a squad of 10 Charging Bull aspect warriors to sculpt. A bit of duplication would make life a lot easier.
Resin - Tokyu Hands in Nagoya
Rubber - Tokyu Hands in Nagoya
Lego - Bic Camera in Nagoya

If you are in town let me know and I'll show you what you need with regards to Resin and Rubber as I tried moulding my own parts a while back. You will also need a glass jar of some kind (a jam jar for example) as the resin is a two part mix that melts through plastic.

Please note though, that it is MUCH easier to mould things that have 1 flat surface and no undercuts. Doing an army would require a 2 part mould which is A) more time consuming and B) more difficult to do.

Please keep the chatter to a minimum, as this is a link compendium, and I hate the idea of wading through posts just to find the one useful bit.

Fair point, chief. I moved some bits the the Eldar playtest section, and deleted extraneous waffle. Sorry 'bout that ;)
