Has anyone used this before? It looks fantastic. What'd the cheapest way to get our hands on some over here, I wonder?

hah! Spent the past 10 mins desperately trying to remember what the bloody stuff is called in Japanese, searching this forum, my favourites, google, whatever. Anyway - it suddenly came to me:

oyumaru

That's what you want. It was AGP who pointed out it was japanese, btw, so props to him for being an all round geek god. One pack of 10 is plenty (get the transparent stuff, btw), unless you plan on press moulding a titan. Armed with the knowledge of what it's actually called, I found the prior thread where we discussed it, and here's the info:

the thread: http://www.nagoyahammer.com/forum/viewt ... u&start=10

the manufacturer: http://www.found2.jp/hinodewashi/oyumaru_index.html

where I got mine: http://item.rakuten.co.jp/bungukimuraya/1434522/

also, I recommend getting a biggish ramen bowl, filling it with boiling water from the kettle, and plonking the stuff in there. You'll have to fish it out with tweezers, but it makes it nicely maleable and it takes a reasonable impression. Be warned - the stuff is not silicon rubber, and you will lose some detail when you use it. If you want exact casts (of heads or something) get some resin and silicon. If you want to clone a bunch of guns, tank treads or other fairly basic things, oyumaru is the stuff for the job. Anyway - it aint too pricey, so by all means get some and muck about with it and see if you like it or not.

There, now wasnt that an uber helpful post? :D

It looks kind of minty. Or is it in a whole different ballpark.

Well it's super cheap at 450 yen a pop... but shipping is 500 yen!! :x I have this automatic repulsion for paying more shipping than the item is worth. Anyone want to buy some of this with me? Or anyone know if they sell it at Joshin or Osu or something?
