GW paint line rumours

Post by Mike the Pike » Thu Mar 15, 2012 12:20 am

The latest rumours about the upcoming changes to GW paints....

http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/s ... hp?t=20457

I like...
The fact that there will be more purples. :D

I don't like...
The fact that they aren't changing the bottles. :(

I think the Madmiral will be a big fan of Agrax earthshade, it's supposed to be 'skill in a bottle'

Spevna can't believe he is going to say this but he thinks GW have done a good thing.

What's the point of changing the bottles' names? Are they changing the mixtures?

Looks pretty good, for those who buy GW paint. I'll maybe even give some of them a shotty next time I'm back in Scotland. maybe...(I see no point in causing myself difficulties just to prove a point.)

*edit* the point of changing the bottle names is that all of the new names are far better able to be trademarked as specific to GW. Less generic, more specific to their gaming universes, easier to protect the IP.

Well, to be fair, they always had quirky names (for copyright reasons): Ultramarine Blue, Snot Green, etc.

Does anyone know if the colors themselves are changing? Are we going to lose some colors - y`know, like colors we`ve painted entire armies with? I still don`t forgive GW for arbitrarily deciding to eliminate Midnight Blue from their paint line...and Orange Ink...and Pallid Flesh...

If they are going to eliminate more colors (that I`ve already painted dozens of models with), it may be time to branch out more into cheaper alternatives like Vallejo. Or, maybe P3.

While quirky, they probably wouldn't work in regards to copyright as ultramarine blue is an actual color all of its own. Snot green might not be specific enough either.

I read somewhere that there will be NO colours removed from the range, and in fact the range itself is doubling in size (from 70something to 150something). So, fear ye not. You may even get midnight blue back :D

regardless, you should be branching out into vallejo and P3 anyyway, as they are very good :) (My first recommendation would be P3 Umbral Umber and Coal Black, then some Vallejo Model Air metallics, btw :D)

Hello from the UK.

Whilst colours might still be available, renaming them all is a massive pain in the behind if you need to buy replacements. I hope they announce which is which.

Did anyone actually read the article?

"Are we going to lose some colors - y`know, like colors we`ve painted entire armies with?"
-Lots of renaming of colours, nothing is leaving.
"I hope they announce which is which."
- Every color is renamed, there will be a white dwarf with a comparison guide released
"I read somewhere that there will be NO colours removed from the range, and in fact the range itself is doubling in size (from 70something to 150something)"
- There are 144 paints (the current line is only 73), so the range is doubling in size.

@Prim: Is the UK so boring that you'd rather spend your time on this here forum? :D

So I was out by one digit. 140something, 150something. Meh, whatever. It's a lot. So, in answer to your question: yes. Me. I read it.
