New Year's Resolutions

Post by The Other Dave » Tue Dec 31, 2013 1:23 am

Let's make painting resolutions for New Year's!

And then, like all resolutions, inevitably fail to meet them! :D

Mine are:
-Finish my ASC set (5 orks, 4 termagants, a guardsman and an off-chapter marine)
-Paint enough of the minis in my delivered-in-January Dropzone Commander box set to play 1000 points by May
-Paint enough of my 6mm Napoleonics to play some Black Powder with Pikey by summer

And I'll stop there so things stay at least within shouting distance of realistic, heh.

A)Paint my old Warzone figures.
B)Paint my new Warzone figures (when they arrive, grumble, grumble, grumble!)
C)Paint my Wraithguard and Eldar fighter.
D)Play more.
E)Don't buy more stuff till the points above are fulfilled.

I give it until codex ig comes out before I fail but only if I stop browsing FW discounters online first
.

Paint my lootaz.
Finish my riptide counts as model.
Build my orky table.
Finish painting my lootaz.
Finish painting my boyzmob.
Finish painting the going orky.
Get my greensteelers army built.

That looks like 7 months worth of project.

I will be lucky to get half of that done.

Oh, boy, I hate these, but I'm going to write them down anyway and regret later I suppose. :)

1) Paint up the French company in the Early War project with Voss by May.
2) Buy and paint Dropzone Commander in a goal with ToD by May.
3) Paint up the Germans for Nagoya Hammer by May.

Uh, I have a lot on my plate for the first half of the year. Other things:
- Build and paint the CSM models I have.
- Paint and base a few things for Black Powder.
- Try to avoid ordering new stuff this year.

For my resolutions:
1. Paint, base and finish 500 minis. I did 450ish last year without really trying too hard, so I figure 500 is possible.
2. Sell off some of my armies - High Elves and Vampires for FB, Khador for WM, Daemons, CSM, some Space Wolves, some IG, some Marines for 40K. Sell/get rid of a lot of the NagoyaHammer terrain.
3. Not really a hobby goal, but continue to study Japanese. I've been managing an hour a day over the past week, I'd like to continue that.

The biggest potential sticking point in all of this is my plan to build a house this year. I can see that eating up a LOT of time.

OK, one more.

(Rather than buy a whole bunch of 6mm North Africa stuff, which I definitely will do someday, but not until my number of unpainted miniatures goes down)

I'm also going to paint up my Battle of Five Armies stuff by year-end.

Happy New Year to you all. Just a quick hello to wish you all the best for this year and hope you are in fine fickle. My resolution this year was decided when I discovered my appendices disc 1 of The Two Towers was missing. My resolution is not to be bothered or irritated by the little things in life. Had enough worrying about small things that don't really matter to last me a lifetime.
This didn't stop me turning the house upside down in a mad Smeagel like, 'where is it precious' fashion, to find it and on having no luck ordering a new copy from ebay hah  Have a better one folks, and see you at the rendezvous point.

Prim Maj, thanks I got my Redcoat book back. I still owe you 700 en. I'll give to Dave or to you when I see you.

Painting resolutions: I'm scared to make one but if I was held at gunpoint? English Civil War project. Completed or progressed with at least.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

I think I'll go ahead and use this thread to keep myself honest and keep my eyes on my goals. So here they are, all gutaiteki ni.

Updated as of Jan. 27

Goal 1: Dropzone Commander
This is the most urgent, relatively speaking, as job and I promised to play a game by May. To get started, I'd like to paint the contents of one starter box, which comes to 541 points and (the 'net tells me) is a pretty good force for learning how the game works. I haven't painted any yet, so that's:

3/3 Hunter Gravtanks
0/3 Reaper AA Gravtanks
0/2 Intruder APCs
0/6 stands of infantry
1/3 Marauder dropships

Goal 2: 6mm Napoleonics
This is, according to my entirely self-imposed schedule, the second-most urgent, but the most nebulous, since my copy of the rulebook hasn't actually arrived yet, and I don't really know how we'd want to organize units and such. So I'll just list the models I have, and modify my goals as I read the rules and talk with Mike about how we want to organize units. (I think that 3 30mm x 60mm bases might be a good unit size, since that's almost the same footprint as the 5 40mm bases that seems to be the norm for BP units, but again I'm not so sure.) So:

4/10 bases of line infantry
1/6 bases of heavy dragoons
1/3 bases of light dragoons
0/3 bases of hussars
0/4 artillery pieces
0/3 command bases

Goal 3: Advanced Space Crusade - Finished on 1/28
This is the easiest, but the least critical, since the chances of the stuff I have left to paint coming up in play are actually fairly low. Still:

1/1 Space Marine
1/1 Imperial Guardsman

Bonus Goal: 10mm Battle of 5 Armies
This is the farthest off, but I actually have a lot of progress done when I take stock. I figure I'll shoot for a "small" 1000-point battle and expand as necessary once I actually get some games in.

Elven Spearmen: 2/2 units
Elven Archers: 1/2 units
Elven Cavalry: 0/2 units
Dwarves: 1/2 units
Men with Spears: 2/2 units
Beorn: 1/1
Leaders: 1/3

Goblins: 5/6 units
Hill Trolls: 0/2 units
Wolf Riders: 3/3 units
Wargs: 3/3 units
Goblin Leaders: 1/4

Super-Bonus Goal: 6mm Ancients, which haven't arrived yet, and which I'll let myself buy and paint as a reward for hitting other goals, I think.

Got myself a painting goal for this year. I'm going for 200 minis.
That's 3.84 minis a week! Can it be done? I hope so. I'm already 3 weeks behind schedule though.
