2016 Resolutions!

I'm a bit hesitant to make a thread this year, since I made only iffy progress on 2015's. But what the hey, here's the semi-traditional "let's make new years painting resolutions and probably not keep them" thread!

Mine, as I've said elsewhere, are modest.

Bolt Action: Finish a reinforced platoon of Germans. I have one squad painted and one (plus an occifer and a sniper team) primed and ready to go on the workbench. When that's done I'll order up what I need for a third squad of infantry and some sort of modest vehicular support. An sdkfz 222 maybe, as that'd put me comfortably at "500 points-ish" as a starting point.

Dropzone Commander: Finish my PHR forces. This means 2 AA walkers and their transport, plus 4 rocket artillery vehicles.

Dropfleet Commander: Due for delivery over the summer, and I'd like to start with a goal of having the starter box forces painted and get demo'ing.

6mm Napoleonics: Want to round out my force a bit more, since Mike and I have informally arranged to try a game or two early in the year. I have 9 bases of infantry and 3 each of heavy and light cavalry painted up, plus some cannon and leaders. I'd like to get, say, 6 more bases of infantry painted up at the very least.

Prim's New Year's Resolutions.
1. End the year with a positive balance on my painting progress points (see my thread elsewhere).
2. Finish a table's worth of terrain.
3. Finish all my promised projects (Horus Heresy, AVBCW, Saga, Lion Rampant).
4. Start no more than 2 new projects (Ideally Zero, but who knows what goodies 2016 will bring).
5. Paint a minimum of each of the following.
>5a AZW British (1 unit)
>5b AZW Zulus (1 unit)
>5c Romans (1 unit)
>5d Celts (1 unit)
>5e Malifaux (1 full crew)
>5f Bolt Action (1x 1000 point army)

That lot should keep me pretty busy I reckon.

MiJ's 2016 hobby resolutions:

1) fully build and paint a 4x4 table's worth of sci fi terrain, plus the actual board (or mat, if I go the pre-made route.)

2) paint a few more Dredd gangers.

3) paint a Malifaux crew (either Lynch or Ramos)

4) paint my Infinity PanO

5) get started on painting Dropfleet when it arrives.

6) paint my remaining corsairs (about 20 guys, 2 venoms and a flyer)

7) paint 500pts of SSP in time for Naghammer.

8) maintain a positive minis painted/sold vs minis bought ratio.

9) play games more.

1. Keep painting Dredd stuff.
-I had all but finished these in 2015, but there are some new acquisitions; Brit-Cit Judges, Judges of the world and some Specialist Judges to go.

2. Paint an army for Lion Rampant (WOTR Yorkists).
- I must keep up with the start Prim has made already. Probably around 50 miniatures. I think I have enough info on the livery to get cracking at least. Hope to expand these into a HC army down the line.

3. Frostgrave gang plus extras
- 10 or so minis, also objective tokens and scenery.

4. Something new for Nagoyahammer 2016.
- This is a bit optimistic. If I don't just go Wolves again, then Necrons most likely. Possibly Orks.

5. Malifaux gang.
- Collodi puppet fun.

6. SAGA Normans.
- 4 Points of archers, crossbows and cavalry for the effete and dastardly French swine.

7. Oldhammer - 1000 points of Orcs and Gobboes.
- Intended for use with 3rd ed, or anything else that works. A lot of stuff I've stripped and will resurrect from my 80s collection, some vintage stuff I picked up at Claymore, and a fair bit of new stuff too.

8. Antares - Starter Concord Army
- From the boxed set. Should be a quick job I reckon.

9. Assemble various mdf bits, including a castle and a gigantuous tower.

That'll more than do me. Very unlikely to be completed in 2016.
I still have other projects I want to do, Pirates, Lotr, etc, for which I have minis, but they'll wait.
Actually, I'll be satisfied with the equivalent of 2 minis a week. If I break 100 and hit about half of these targets, I'll call that a success!

For the coming year, I've got a few things simmering.

1. Dredd.

I want to get two more gangs painted for this, a load of East Meg judges, and small group of sky-surfers.

2. Saga.

This is almost done. I need to get two or three more units done for it before I have a complete Celt army.

3. WHFB.

The plan here is to get a Celt/Slaine themed chaos army done. I'm also aiming for this to be usable for an fantasy rules out there.

4. Bolt Action.

I've got a full painted army of winter Germans done, but I've got about another 50 guys and 2 tanks to add to that.

5, AVBCW.

I want to get a small army of British fascists done for this. Nothing massive, just a small themed force.

6. Frostgrave.

The gang is painted, just need to get them on the table!

7. Ronin.

I'm painting up a small group of Orc/goblin bandits ( or Mongols ). They will use human stats, but the minis are too nice to not use.

8. WH40K

I have a few squads of Beakies, and a few orks left to do.


On a non gaming note, I'll have a lot of work to do for the Kickstarter for the next couple of months. I'm also going to Thailand in August, and then I'll be going home to England for the first time in 11 years.
That's pretty much my plan for 2016.

Edit! Totally forgot about Antares! I shall be finishing off that army pretty soon and getting some games in ASAP!

GoA: Finish an army for Antares
TNT: Finish the minis I bought for TNT gangs and finish building & weathering the buildings I already have
BloodBowl: Paint at least 2 of my many unpainted teams (and finish my blood bowl stand for extra credit)

The first half of the year is done, time for a quick review of our progress methinks.

My targets were:

2. Finish a table's worth of terrain.
3. Finish all my promised projects (Horus Heresy, AVBCW, Saga, Lion Rampant).
4. Start no more than 2 new projects (Ideally Zero, but who knows what goodies 2016 will bring).

So far this year I have a healthy amount of painty points built up, so goal number 1 is looking good.
I finished a full table of terrain for NagoyaHammer2016, so goal 2 is done and dusted.
Goal 3 isn't faring so well. My Horus Heresy stuff is still missing a Dreadnought, I haven't touched the minis for AVBCW or Saga. I have most of the minis for Lion Rampant done though.
I haven't started collecting any new games/eras this year, so goal 4 is holding steady right now.
Goal 5 is a fairly sizeable chunk of models, so far I have completed a unit of Zulus and a 1000 point BA army, so those are done. The AZW British, the Romans and the Celts are nowhere near my painting area yet (BA is dominating my painting as of late). I have a couple of Malifaux figures that get a dab of paint every now and again, but I still need to do a lot on them.

So, of my goals, 1 is finished, 2 are currently met, though that may change before the end of the year, and 2 are a long way off being done. It's not looking good.

In the spirit of Prim's half-year update:
Bolt Action: Finished almost all of my remaining French army bits, bar one vehicle. The Aussies and IJA are on the backburner for the unplanned US Airborne + Glider troops force for the Overlord event.
GoA: Have about 1/4 of an army done, so making slow headway on this one.
TNT: Painted most of my bikers, partway painted some muties. Have not done any work on terrain though...
BloodBowl: Have not progressed this at all...

+Play more games! Have played Bolt Action, 40k, Frostgrave, X-Wing, Bloodbowl and TNT this year, so pretty happy on that front...

Since it is now January 2017, I figure I should take a look at my 2016 resolutions.

On second thoughts, maybe I shouldn't look at them.
Goal 1, to finish the year with a positive number of painty points, I have done. I haven't calculated December's Painty Points yet, I did get a lot of minis and terrain for Christmas (of the From Prim, To Prim variety of gifts. ), but I still have a positive balance.

Goal 1 - Clear!

Goal 2, to finish a Table's worth of terrain. I completed a set of Jungle terrain for NH16 and a set of beaches and cliffs for Overlord, so this one has been completed twice over.

Goal 2 - Spectacularly clear!

Goal 3, to finish off all of my promised projects, AVBCW, Saga, Lion Rampant and Horus Heresy. I have a 4 point warband done for Saga, about 75% of my LR minis are painted and my Horus Heresy Word Bearers are only missing a Contemptor Dreadnought. The AVBCW force didn't get anywhere near my painting desk though.

Goal 3 - Not clear!

Goal 4 was to not start any new projects. I think I actually achieved this one. It helps that a KS I backed is late in shipping, but everything I bought, built and painted relates to something I was already working on in 2015.

Goal 4 - Surprisingly clear!

Goal 5, to paint up new units/crews/armies for Black Powder, Hail Caesar, Malifaux and Bolt Action was a goal that required dedication and focus. Two qualities which I most obviously lack. I got the unit of Zulus finished, but the AZW British unit has only just gone onto my workbench. The Romans and Celts didn't get touched. My Cult of December crew for Malifaux is nearly finished, but 3 models still need their bases doing, so no luck there. Finally Bolt Action. I finished off a 1000 point army of Indians/Sikhs for NH16 and then did a couple of thousand points in trucks, tanks, support weapons and infantry for my German, British and Americans in time for Overlord.

Goal 5 - Off course and not clear!

TL,DR - 3 out of 5 goals achieved. Better luck next year.

I managed 2 of 9 proposed goals - to whit, a Frostgrave gang, and some mdf assembly. Didn't even square away all of my already started Lion Rampant, and it's a shame that my Malifaux and Saga weren't done, as I'd like to play these in 2017. Not a great result I have to say, but not a typical year. Must try harder.
