My mate Andrew sent me these links from Frothers UK, a forum which is a good deal less decorous than our own Austen-esque refuge of well-mannered young ladies and gentlemen. (He says he finally felt accepted when one of the regulars called him a c***)

Nice, I especially liked the weathered ones.
But I guess i am more surprised about the use of language.

I'm not sure, but I think it might be a British thing. I know my friends and I (when Im back home) use all kinds of foul language without anyone taking offence. In fact, its almost required. I guess it's almost like "you are my friend, and I am your friend. I trust you know that fact well enough, and know me well enough, to realise that I am not in fact trying to insult you when I call you a *******." or something like that...

Those are absolutely lush! The stuff they used to churn out back then had so much character.

Old School was all about fun there was not the level of competitiveness it was all about fun... I love it...

The old RT era models are certainly characterful. Almost cartoon-like in a way. Unfotunately there is just such a large difference with the current range that they look out of place if you put them together (and about 3 sizes too small).
I think, for RT the models were well suited. For the current state of the setting (ie grim-dark all is doom etc) they just dont fit.

The paint work is spanking gorgeous though.

I see, I have not traveled much in English speaking countries so that must be why I am unfamiliar with it. Most of my English comes from movies/games/books etc. and it is only after moving to Japan some years ago that I actually started to speak it.

All very true unfortunately. Having a bunch of characterful metal figures worked well when WH40K was a small skirmish game. The way the game is now, it wouldn't work from a thematic or economic point of view. I mean, seriously, what kind of person would actually go through the expense of picking up a whole RT era army, and take the time to paint each mini as an individual?

I'm the one who pointed those links out to M_I_J. I especially like the smoothness of the paint job on those Imperial Fists.

I've actually got a decent sized army-worth of old RT beakies - a dozen metal Marines, a Terminator squad and about fifty of the old plastic guys. Rather small by today's standards, but if I ever get round to painting them up, they should look the business.

Those 'Fists are gorgeous. The yellow is amazing, but I also like how they show the potential effectiveness of simple, understated base decoration. There's a trend these days towards putting a lot of time into bases, but there is such a thing as "too busy," you know?
