Recommend an Empire paint scheme?
Recommend an Empire paint scheme?
Hello there, I wondered if I could sound people out regarding what they consider to be the most striking, memorable or down-right cool empire colour scheme?
I'll be starting an Empire army for 8th edition, and already have the bulk of a 2000+ army on the sprues.
I wondered what folk out there feel are the better schemes? Or if you are into the fluff, which state or city appeals?
For reference, GW have a page of statetroopers in the appropriate schemes, though I could also consider making my own. There is also the Bogenhafen scheme in purple and cream.

It's a toughie. I am going to rule out doing different units in different schemes, as I want a unified look.
Any thoughts?
Cheers.

Well, I quite like the Talabheim colour scheme, but Red and White are both a pain to paint.
What units do you intend to take? If you've got lots of cannons and handgunners go for Nuln, its a nice easy one too. If you have lots of state troops take Altdorf. Base your colour scheme on your army theme.
Or just go with whichever looks coolest and simplest to paint.

White and a dark colour looks great on Empire troops and the like. White is a toughie to paint as Prim. said but if you have the skills then go for it?

I sow what you have done with your Orks they look... I would think that the same kind of work on your Empire amy ma work out well I think that checkers always stand out very well if you do a lot of checkers or stripes they will not only look cool but you will have learned a valuable lesson in painting...

One of the guys I used to play with painted up his Empire troops all in white like Napoleonic Austrians. Looked awesome, but (and I speak from painful first-hand experience) white can be a massive SoB to paint.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Tell me about it I am Painting My PH World Eeaters and let me just say that if posting on the forum can keep me away then... I am going to keep posting.. I am sure I would not be posting at all if I was painting some think green..But here am...
I think the white does however make a very cool looking army and once it is painted everyone will be telling how coo they look...

I've been a big fan of Hochland myself, the red and green go together. And yes, red and white are difficult, but yellow is much more difficult IMO

I am looking in to doing yellows because they look great the key to yellows is oil based paint... I reckon. same could be said about white as well..

Re: Recommend an Empire paint scheme?
Thanks for the comments everyone!
I think regarding what units I want to field, there will certainly be lots of infantry (I'll have 100 state troops shortly to kick things off, and almost as many in other categories), but I I want to be able to field anything I choose really. I suppose this points to a rich province.
I've ruled out Middenheim, Talabecland, Averland, Wissenland, Stirland either because I don't like the scheme or the fluff. I know another guy with Nuln, which I like, but I'll go for something less common I reckon.
I rather like Hochland, Altdorf, Nordland at the moment.. they are all gorgeous, rich schemes. None of them have white, but the tips on using it are worth taking on board, thanks for that great pic of the Austrians. It is a frustrating colour to paint though.
Fluff wise I had the idea of a) some kind of expeditionary or patrolling force, "Altdorf Expeditionskorp" or something similar. Or b) perhaps a Hochland army with some heavy Taal/Old religion themes rather than sigmarite. (wood elf orion model is basically taal, he might look a lot nicer than that griffin on a war altar).
Mind you, if I get more fluff notions I'll post them elsewhere
I'm getting there, thanks everyone for the colour scheme tips so far.
