Looks pretty clear to me! And pretty extensive.
From the above I looked at one of the minis I bringing and I give it a 23 lol
Which I had more time for it lol. Actualy I'm not gonna have time to make the squad I wanted to bring! So it will only be single model and if I finish the vehicle I'm make!

I agree. Looks like u put a lot of thought into it.

@ Admiral - don't worry that it looks technical. I reckon u do those techniques without realizing it. I know I don't know what some of those annonyms are.

Looks like you put a lot of thought in to it. :geek:
@baddy: If there's something you don't like about it, by all means say so. I can take it :D. If you'd rather not be seen to gripe in public, PM me. I want everyone to feel that the contest is being fairly judged, is all.

@all: please bear in mind that my grades for any given mini may not be the same as yours. Final grades will not be discussed (cos its a bloody can of worms, is why) but I'm happy to advise or comment on individual entries. What i definitely will not be doing is comparing minis publicly (eg "this mini is better than that one because...") That kind of thing woul only cause problems. The judge's decision is final and non negotiable etc etc. I.e. either trust me to be fair or don't enter. No griping afterwards. :D

Ps it looks technical cos i was trying to find a clear method of scoring that wasn't just "it looks good". Really, I wrote it for me, I'm just showing it publicly cos one of the entrants (prim) had already seen it and I wanted to keep everything above board.

Even though I probably wont be there this year, the guidelines for the competition inspire me to paint a mini and then send it to MIJ to get a grade on it using this checklist. Nicely thought out. It adds to the excitement of a competition if we know the judge is serious. Good work. :geek:
Don't be put off lads, rise to the challenge. Gambarre :)

My problem with it is that it relegates miniture painting to hobby or handy-craft. If you are describe what is required to get a score and base it on stuff you can plot on a graph it move farther away from art. This is my problem with a list of what adds to a score.

And furthermore, the fact that it is a competition necessitate it having a scoring system. Even the more subjective sports events such as figure skating and synchronised swimming which have a very artistic element require clear and specific scoring guidelines and criteria.

If you want an event were people bring their painted miniatures and vote on which one they like the most then a scoring system is neither here nor there.

If you want an actual competition where "the best" miniature and "the best" painter are decided, there is no getting away from guidelines, criteria, and a scoring system.

I never would have pegged The Spevna as a fan of figure skating and synchronized swimming. It just goes to show, you should never judge a book by its cover.

On the topic of the painting guidelines, yes they are rather technical, but at the same time, if you have done a world class freehand display on the model, but not bothered basing it or trimming off the mold lines, then of course it should count against you. If you have done the freehand and the basing and prepped the model then you will get a great score.

The other alternative is that we just let M_i_J choose the one he likes the best in which case the swooshiest model will win and marines need not be entered.

But really, I'm still shocked at The Spevna's taste in sports.
