Thirdly, I seem to recall quite a bit of commotion when I asked people to bring along printed army lists.
Noted  Fair enough. Perhaps we could encourage people to bring the belly fluff but it doesn't have to be comp. Speed painting still happening?

Best unit? Best character or single mini? Best newcomer (2013 mini)? Best army?

Special prize for most original paint scheme?
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

Minis painted in 2017: 13
Minis painted in 2018: 45

For a miniature painting comp, i agree with MIJ in that a title them like that allows for entrants own interpretations would be cool. Maybe something like "WHACK!" (but of course that may require a second mini in a diorama form).

Colors and location based themes could work too, as others have mentioned.

i doubt that writing a story about your army would change much though. sorry, but I think it would create extra work for some who are just coming to game and socialize. That is not to say people couldn't do it anyway. Just not part of a competition. Feel free to add character to your army. I used to write a short story after some of my Dark Eldar games to create a history for my Cabal.

If it were for terrain, I think you would have to make it based on jungle, city etc. Otherwise it would be very hicklety picklety (of they are words).

Not very helpful, I know. But encouraging minis from different systems would be great for the painting comp.

In the words of mike the pike.

KISS

All the talk of theams and stuff is really not that nessesary. Just do it like we did in that past. Folkes show up there best painted models on a table... The unwashed masses vote and we add up the votes he with the most votes wins. I mean really doe we need all that much I don't think we do.

I'm inclined to agree with Badruck, to a certain extent. The only thing I'd say would be to have categories. Single mini, monster/vehicle, unit (same as this year's naghammer). It's hard to fairly compare a titan to a snotling, even if both are painted really well.

I'd like to encourage folks to enter minis painted solely for the painting compo, and to enter them from ranges we may not see on the tabletop too often, but if folks want to enter a squad of ultrasmurfs, as long as its a well painted squad there'll be no complaints from me.
