If you want to register your name for the O-Bomb 40k Tournament, please post your name and location here. Unlike the NagoyaHammer event, I wont be posting up what armies people are bringing.
Please use the other page for discussion of the event.

Ok, this is just to let everyone know about prizes for the tournament.

First place will receive over 10,000 yen worth of Citadel Hobby prizes.

If we have more people sign up then there may be other prizes as well.

I'll be there with the Ultramarines again.
Flying back early from England to play.
Perhaps I should get out more?

Come on folks. It'll be 180 degrees in the middle of August, where else are you gonna go?

I suspect that I will probably be able to make it, altho please do not throw a wobbly if i end up cancelling. I promise not to drop out at the last minute. if im not gonna make it, ill know a few weeks in advance, at least.

also, how strict is the whole minimum-painting thing? My nurglies are all painted, but i dont see them as a competitive force at all. My eldar can kick ass with the best of them, but are largely unpainted. I dont paint whole minis at once. I paint the green bits. i highlight them, i shade them. i paint the next colour, highlight, shade, etc. i really hate playing with half-painted models, as I tend to lose all motivation to finish em. (witness my fire dragons. played em half painted once, never finished em.)

My eldar are not in any way going to be finished by august 15th. Am I barred? What if the army is partially painted? e.g. my warlock is probably a 4 pointer, my warp spiders are 3 pointers, and my banshees are 0 pointers. What would I get? I expect to get slammed on this, points wise, and thats fair enough. But, id prefer it, if it turned out that I-woulda-won-but-player-2-had-3-painty-points-so-he-won, if folks could refrain from saying "aha, you should paint faster and get your eldar up to table top standard." I dont agree with forcing people to rush their paint jobs just so they can win tourneys. Ability to paint and ability to play 40k well are two separate things. Having a best-painted army award is good. winning the tourney cos your painting is good is quite another.

Not that I'm likely to win anyway, based off previous tourney performance, but itd be tempting fate not to pre-empt the jeers at least a bit.

anyway, thoughts?

That is a good point. I would take an average I guess. If some of your army is painted up to 3/4 and some is at 0/1 you'd get a 2. i.e. you have the skill to get good scores, but you didn't paint everything.

You got your Nurglies painted up in time for NagoyaHammer and you've had the Eldar a wee bit longer than them. I got all my High Elves 60 models, plus 10 cavalry, plus 4 warmachines done in about 5 weeks. I had to work like a dog to do it, but I got plenty of points for doing so.

Essentially the choice to paint or not is yours. I KNOW you paint very well, I KNOW you paint far better than I do, I also know that painting that well takes time and patience and a good chunk of motivation.
You know the extra points are there if you want them. Its your call to paint or not. Bearing in mind that a 3 colour minimum in 7 weeks is do-able and could potentially raise your average.

This also applies to everyone as far as paint, comp and sportsmanship goes. You can choose to bring a cheesey, unpainted army and treat everyone like dirt or you can choose to bring a balanced, painted force and make friends. Its really your call. Just remember that the latter tactic is going to get you points. Badruck says that for him, choosing the most powerful army is part of winning the tournament. It can also be a part of losing it as well. This is NOT 'Ard Boyz. Winning at all costs means less when playing strangers, but a lot more when playing friends.

well in dat case, I shall be playing with a largely unpainted army, but it shall be a non-cheesy army, and i shall play like a gent. That'll have tae do...
