NH17 - DAY 2 - Epic

Post by Primarch » Wed Mar 22, 2017 10:06 pm

As part of the Full 40K theme at NH17, The Other Dave has generously volunteered to run a game of Epic on DAY 2. If you haven't played before and want to try it, or if you just want to see Tyranid Biotitans stomping around the table, you can sign up below. I'm not sure if ToD will be running Epic in the Morning, Early Afternoon or Late Afternoon slots (or maybe all 3?), but if you're interested in playing, please post below and discuss it.

As an intro for the game, ToD has put together the following:
The Other Dave wrote:Hive Fleet Hecatoncheires, Kastavan IV Ash Wastes Incursion, Dominatrix “Geryon” Psychic Probe Report
Eyes Only: Colonel Vrask, Imperial Guard 307th Kastavan Headhunters

**begin report**
**classification code Zeta-Three-Eight-Lambda-Five**
**the psychic probe on which following report is based cost the lives of 6 sanctioned psykers and the sanity of 7 more – may their sacrifice not be in vain**

-the hive must move from the <infection zones> in the <sourbitter dead lands> *note: tactical cogitator analysis gives a 96.9% likelihood that this refers to the Tyranid landing zones in the Ash Wastes south of Vorgan’s Reach* into the population centers of the <other flesh> to replenish losses incurred in the initial <infection>
-weakness in the <antibody wall> is detected *note: tactical cogitator analysis gives an 86.7% likelihood that this refers to the lightly-defended XVII sector on the outskirts of Vorgan’s Reach*
-create a gap for following forces of the <same flesh> to exploit
-beware an <envelopment> by nearby <antibodies> alerted to the <infection>
-capture the <stone cyst> for the creation of <spawning pools> *note: tactical cogitator analysis gives a 63.8% likelihood that this refers to the administratum offices of Vorgan’s Reach Sector XVII*

**end report**

Colonel, it falls to you to defend Sector XVII on the outskirts of Vorgan’s Reach, the largest population center on the edge of the ash wastes of Kastavan IV, from the advances of Hive Fleet Hecatoncheires. Unfortunately, analysis suggests that the Xenos scouts have determined that this sector is relatively lightly-defended, and are focusing their attack on your position. Analysis of their attack suggests that they are trying to break through the line here and establish a gap. Do not let them succeed! Reinforcements will arrive in force soon – the 179th Armored Battalion is moving to deploy on your left flank, and the 83rd Air Cavalry on your right. Air support is also being mobilized, but will need some time to arm and fuel before launch. Hold out with your garrison until support arrives, and do everything you can to rob the Tyranid assault of its forward momentum. For Kastavan! For the Emperor!

Warning! Lictors have been reported in this sector. Standard Overwatch covering fire protocols are highly recommended until the foul creatures have shown themselves.

All 3 if possible! It'll depend to some degree on how familiar participants are with the rules - I selected both armies on purpose to be fairly newbie-friendly (knock on wood), so people with any level of experience with Epic are welcome, but as it's a full-sized game it may take a bit longer with people getting a handle on the basics.

Also, to put the fluffy mission description in plain English:

This scenario will be an attacker-defender type mission, with Tyranids assaulting a lightly-defended Imperial Guard position. They'll be coming along the length of the board at a force that is initially much smaller, but that will get reinforcements as the game progresses. The Tyranid goals will be centered around capturing objectives deep in Guard territory, while the Guard objectives are to hold the line - for anyone familiar with Flames of War, it's a modified "Pincer" scenario from the third edition. The 'Nids are moving in from the hilly ash wastes, across a ruined city zone, and into a relatively-unscathed section of city to capture a large building there and lay eggs in it or whatever.

The initial Guard garrison consists of an infantry company on foot, holding tactically-important buildings near the center line, a super-heavy tank company, the regimental HQ (an infantry company in chimeras) and a small artillery battery. In reserve are storm troopers in valkyries supported by vultures on one flank, and a company of Leman Russes supported by a shadowsword on the other, along with a flight of heavy bombers.

The Tyranids are attacking with a dominatrix and a (relatively) small bio-titan, two big swarms of gaunts and warriors supported by larger bio-constructs, a swarm entirely of big bio-constructs and hive tyrants, a swarm of genestealers and another of gargoyles in a harridan, a small bio-artillery swarm, and just for fun, some hidden lictors.

Great! Can't wait to get a look at that Tyrannid Dominatrix. Sounds like hot stuff.
