[Poll] NH18 - What to do about the latest 40k FAQ

Post by Dekana » Tue Apr 17, 2018 9:59 am

  1. No specific ruling. Discuss with your opponent(s) before each game.
  2. Ignore the March FAQs. It's already too close to the event.
  3. Use the latest FAQs, but not the suggested event play rules or beta rules.
  4. Use the latest FAQs and the suggested event play rules, but not the beta rules.
  5. Use everything in the FAQ.
  6. Use the FAQ and the beta rules, but not the suggested event play rules.
GW got around to releasing the March FAQ / errata yesterday and updated the FAQs for most of the army codexes and the big rulebook.
https://www.warhammer-community.com/faqs/

Seeing how Naghammer is about a month away, I'd like to get everyone's opinion on how much of the errata, if any, we should use for the event.

I guess I vote for 5 myself. I'm not sure if the deep strike changes are really wise, but I do like using the most recent ruleset. (I opt in to nightly software builds too!)

I'm for 5 personally, for similar reasons as Dekana, although I'm flexible - the biggest iffy thing for me this close to event is the 0-3 non-Troop datasheet limit, which doesn't affect me personally but might be rough if it invalidates anyone's list. I might even add

6. Use the FAQ and the beta rules, but not the suggested event play rules.

The deep strike thing is a game-changer to be sure, but (and speaking as someone who likes his Reivers and Inceptors) I could learn to live with it.

Good point, I'll add that to the list.

The detachment limits don't affect me either, so I'll stick with my vote for now.

I'm for 5 or 6. To be honest, personally, I like 6 as I can still field my dreadnaught war-pack in my Technomagus cult, but I'm not hung up on it. I still have other daemonic war engines if needed.

I think 5 is a pretty good option. I like them putting the brakes on easy Smite spamming and character screening. The point changes should be relatively easy for people to take into account as well.

Considering that this thread has been open for about 3 weeks and we have one week to go to NagHam, can we agree upon #5? It would help with preparing the final list and packing the bags.

That's probably easiest - nobody doesn't like 5, and frankly the buzz about actual games played with the FAQ changes (as opposed to armchair-hammering) suggests they're solid.

Edit to add: That said, with how good some folks in our community are about reading rules (he said with a smile and a heart full of love), I'm planning on not counting on any given opponent even knowing the FAQ is a thing.
