NagoyaHammer 2019 - Kill Team (Friday 3 May)
Hi all,
As the day fast approaches, I thought I'd follow Prim's lead and start a thread for the Day 1 Kill Team event thingamajobber, as piggybacking in the main Day 1 thread doesn't seem conducive to actual planning and talking about it.
On day 1 (Friday the 3rd) I'll be doing a fast-and-dirty Kill Team campaign, if only for a chance to use the progression rules. I think we can get in a solid 5 games or so between 9 am and 9 pm, with plenty of time to fumble around with experience points and so on between games. My ideas for basic ground rules are:
-Create a 20-model command roster, and choose models from that for each game after you get your opponent.
-Start with 8 of each resource and track gains and losses as detailed in the missions. Whoever ends with the most total resources at the end of the day wins the campaign and no prizes whatsoever!
-Play 5 games, at 100, 100, 125, 125, 150 points.
-You can put Commanders in your roster, but using them in a game will require your opponent's approval. Games using Commanders add 100 points to the game size for that game in the campaign.
-All models start with 1 XP, just so we can actually see some progression.
At the moment, we've got signed up:
Myself
Underdweller
mij (when he's not doing Black Powder)
holyschnikeys
Kondo-san

I'm sure I'm displaying terrible ignorance here, but what is the purpose of increasing the points levels as we go? I'm building a roster (for my dark eldar) just now and it seems that once you hit 60 or 70 points you've maxed out on all specialists and it simply becomes a matter of adding more and more basic bodies (in this case kabalites and wyches) to make up numbers. Past about 100 it looks like it'd just be more-of-the-same. Am I missing something? Feels like I am. Pardon my ignorance.

As you level up, your guys get more expensive - specialists are +4/8/12 points for levels 2/3/4, and experienced troops are +1/2/3. The basic progression means that a kill team that’s getting level ups and not losing guys will stay about the same size, but teams that aren’t leveling up will get more warm bodies to compensate.me_in_japan wrote:I'm sure I'm displaying terrible ignorance here, but what is the purpose of increasing the points levels as we go? @dave - apologies for not saying so sooner, but many thanks for the info. Starting to make more sense now I've actually begun rereading the rulebook (as opposed to just list tinkering in army builder, which is where I usually start.) Should be fine by the time Nagham rolls around

I don’t mind if you play other stuff, of course, but to clarify, the plan is to have KT go all day - 5 games from morning to evening - so we can have a go at the campaign rules and track experience and territory and such.Konrad wrote:I'm in! For the record, I would prefer if there are no commanders in the games I play, as I have only played one game of Kill Team so far, and that was several months ago.

That’s fine - I expect a few people will feel that way, and we’ll only use them in a given battle if both players agree. The Underdweller wrote:For the record, I would prefer if there are no commanders in the games I play, as I have only played one game of Kill Team so far, and that was several months ago.
