I don't think availability of tape measures would be a big problem. Lol.

At least for me, if I want to go to a 40k Tourney, whether it will be in CM or inches won't be a make-or-break factor. I don't speak for all Tokyo gamers, but I just suggest you (Primarch) make it clear that the tournament is mainly going to be in inches. That is all.

Re the tape measure thing, as long as people know in advance I think it's reasonable to expect them to bring their own - it's easy enough to get inch tape measures in Tokyo; you can buy them in (drum roll)... GW stores. The GW stores here in Japan sell tape measures that are marked in both inches and cm.

I took the shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagoya last year, but I was spending the whole of Golden Week in the Nagoya/Aichi area; for just the days of the tournament, that's a bit expensive. I'm probably going to take the bus of doom this year.

Ive managed to appropriate one more tape measure, wot i "borrowed" from my dad. (he said it was OK - he knows fine well he'll never see it again...)

so, i can supply 3 measures if needed, and prim has a pile too. We should be fine and dandy, i reckon. And as Seneschal and Reikou have both said, folks can work it out if need be - us gamers are a sensible lot :D

Both the English and the Japanese introduction sections mention this.
Games will be played in inches and cm. Please discuss this with your opponent first. If you cannot reach an agreement, then inches will take priority.
サイコロ、テープメジャー、テンプレーツ(型板)は、各自でご用意下さい。(ゲームでは、センチメートルではなく、インチを適用します)
So everything should be fine.

I will join for the 3rd Tuesday. If I say no to tournament do I still get to play 40k? If this is unhelpful I'll say yes to tournament.

Looking forward to it. Ultramarines are having a rethink.

What do I need to do to become a veteran? Gaming since 8 to 12 with rogue trader, second edition 40k and Space Hulk Heroquest etc. Sure I admit I had a break between 12 and 25 where I dated girls and drank straight vodka :D

Admittedly I never win 40k but I can be a crappy veteran can't I?

If we are talking about difficulty rating put me in experienced. I guess that could be more fun.

You arent required to enter the tournament to play 40k. The tournament will be 1500 points whilst the regular games will be 500 points tag team games.

I reckon you are a vet once you have played in a few tournaments and placed in the top 20% or if you have been playing for years and have a fully painted army...

I would also say that Vets know the rules or at least enough rules so they can play most of a game with out some one telling them what to do...
I could be a vet but I have not played in many tournaments and hardly know the rules... but I do have a few fully painted armies and I have been playing for a few years...
