Happy New Year 2025

Post by The Other Dave » Wed Jan 01, 2025 10:57 am

Happy New Year NagoyaHammer-ites! Hope you and yours had an excellent holiday (and that you get some more excellent holiday before having to go back to work).

2024 was another good year for me, hobby-wise, mostly centering around the continued success of the Ichinomiya Underworlds group on the gaming end, as my Nagoya Mini Club gaming has been fun but a bit scattershot - the Darkest Dungeon campaign has probably been the highlight there. Looking back at my painting log, my painting output slowed down from previous years, but that's mostly because my collections are mature - all I really did this year was my Epic forces and (most of) my Spearhead for AoS, plus keeping up with the Joneses in Underworlds. But I'm pleased with my output and my continuing development as a painter, working on finding that elusive point between "fast" and "good" that keeps me happy and motivated. My Thricefold Discord were even featured on GW's Hang Out and Paint stream (although it triggered some "in retrospect I should have cleaned up the sprue gates better" regret), but of course I couldn't see it myself because of time zones. Plus I continued to paint pretty much at the exact pace I acquired minis at, which is always a nice balance point to be at.
Feel free to call me Dave!

あけましておめでとうございます! 今年もよろしくお願いします。

Happy new year, and here's to a another good year of hobbying for 2025!

I painted less this year, but that's probably down to an absolute cracker of a year for videogames, particularly in the first half (not to mention trying to pad the count in the last month didn't work so well with Thousand Sons instead of Tyranids  ). Definitely painted a lot less than I bought but I at least had fun assembling it.

Gamewise was great - 40K, Underworlds and Spearhead all generated some great play, and I feel the scorelines have been closer than ever. Other than trying some things at Nagoyahammer I didn't get much outside the GW bubble, but I may as well continue to lean in there while the rules suit me, since someday they won't.

I won't make New Year's Resolutions, but the stretch goal would be to make good on last year's investment in AOS and paint one of the armies - maybe even those Cursed City models that have been lurking around for a while.

Happy New Year everyone :)

Well, 2024 for me was a pretty good year in terms of real life - no major incidents, and my family are doing well. Can't ask for more than that, and I'm super aware that on bad years this is the kinda year you look back at and yearn for. So, aye - all good in 2024.

Painty-wise, eh, I was my usual ass-draggin' self. I did get a fair chonk (relatively speaking) of dark eldar done for naghammer, and have had a last minute burst at the end of the year, too, but mostly I think my big hobby development in 2024 was my 3d printer. I love it to bits and have been slowly but surely churning out more grey for the pile of shame. I've kept fairly well on top of the x-wing stuff I've printed, and its allowed me to finish up my dark eldar completely - just need to paint them. Oh, and also Trench Crusade has tickled my fancy - I've actually painted 3 minis for it already, with more on the bench.

No resolutions for 2025 other than: get up there and see y'all more often. And paint more!
current (2019) hobby interests
eh, y'know. Stuff, and things

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

Happy New Year everyone!

This year I really only got around to 4 minis: the zodiacs. While I'm happy with how they came out in the end, I'm so looking forward to catching up with Malifaux and not spending a few dozen hours per mini. Here's to a great 2025!
