I've used eBay on and off since I first got the internet. I picked up 70 metal space wolves for about 50 pounds and a full 1500 point chaos marine army, still brand new in the box for 100 including shipping to Japan. It is definitely worth a look if you're buying older stuff.
I dont use Buy It Now (or at least I didnt when I could just go to Maelstrom) as it tends to be folks who have bought stuff cheap from Maelstrom/Wayland/GW Trade Account and are just reselling it at a markup, though often cheaper than GW. I'd probably shy away from these people now as well, as ultimately the money you spend will go back to GW as they restock. Plus the second hand stuff is often cheaper.

Plus, I do like bidding for stuff, it's kind of fun. :D

I've used it in the past for hard-to-get stuff. Rackham, OOPs, ltd editions and suchlike. Don't use it often, as the temptation to overspend would be too high.

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

The only time I do a big spend is on my birthday and at Xmas. I always get on Ebay and manage to get enough to make a small 40K army at least. Plenty of bargains to be had.
The dangers of starting your auction at $0.01 and just assuming people will bid it up to where you want it..
Never start an auction and $0.01 as it will invariably come back and bite you in the arse. If you are selling, put the starting price as the very minimum you would be happy to sell it for.

ebay is great, they charge more to sellers nowadays compared with when it took off 6 or 7 years ago. I made 100 dollors from selling 20 painted savage orcs. You can make good money if you sell painted stuff.
In general I've bought a lot of stuff from ebay over the years. Especially stuff you can't buy anymore. Like the Space Crusade Dreadnought and things like that. Completely useless but fun  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Games-Workshop- ... 27c03a0327
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

@Prim: The two lots I bought were both from US E-bay. However, it shows UK auctions too.
