Re: gaming priorities
Hmm... for me I think my priorities break down like this:
1) FOW- my favorite system by far. I love the comprehensive rules, the tactical depth to the rule system, its devotion to history and tactics, the support given to the game by its developers (Beat free rule books, free content, no questions asked replacement policy, forum where developers respond to player concerns and questions, tournament system run and supported by the developers and an interactive website with lots of content? definitely the anti-GW
) Those reasons and its a tread-head's dream.
2) 40k- This is odd and even slightly confounding, maybe not to you, but at least to me. I'm reoccurringly on the forums dissing the game, or complaining about the codex system, or the holes in the rules, or the difficulty keeping up the rules... or the fact I currently don't even have a 40k army. But, for all that, I still can't get away from how fun the game is in team matches, or how good the times were when I participated in big game battles with groups. (Gosh I miss the old game store!
- tears of nostalgia ) So should this be a priority? Well, maybe once the new releases of Dark Angels and Chaos come out, I'll be clambering to make an army.
3) Warhammer/ Black Powder- Warhammer would have held the 3rd spot free and clear along, maybe even the 2nd spot except the game I had last month with MtP. Now BP is on the rise fast. Maybe it will be #2 soon.
But Warhammer still is an excellent game and I enjoy the set up, tactics and heroics. I like how it is less "combo"-oriented as 40k, IMHO. I'm just not big on the movement system (I wish they'd adopt a more forgiving system like BP), in a lot of places it has holes, and there are places where the mechanics of the game breaks down, but I really enjoy the good games.
5) Hmm, I want to put Epic, but I still don't have an army for it.
(Sorry ToD.)
6) Strategy Board Games. I love board games from Risk to A&A to (Umm) the Puerto Rico type games to Agricola to ...
7) Blood Bowl. It could be higher but I don't have enough experience with the game yet to spur my enthusiasm.
8) Cutlass: Arrgh! Avast maties, this be the good in between sorts of game. / Mordheim. Good old times.
I might get into another game sometime, principally Bolt Action and after that other historic games. Warmahordes has also been on the periphery of my radar. Still, two of the above I still need to buy and build some armies so these may just be pipe dreams.
