Re: The Book Thread
@job - yup, the dune books are fantastic. one day i will realise my dream of a bunch of eldar exodites in a fremen stylee
@ ash - have you read the Dark Tower books by stephen king? once you do it becomes clear that almost every one of his books is connected, some subtly, some very very strongly indeed. id recommend them (and can lend them to you if you fancy)
also, the game of thrones books are good. dont expect a fantasy romp - theyre more about the characters and the politics.
as for my reading, i just finished Robert Heinlein's "The Puppet Masters", which was very kindly bequeathed to me by Danguinius. tis a very good book indeed. not heavy going at all, and full of rather charming 1950isms, but underneath it all it has a lot to say about a lot of things. very much recommended. i also read james herbert's "rats" trilogy, which was (sorry, dan) rubbish. i dunno, maybe i think too much, but there were far too many "eh? why in the seven hells would that ever happen?" moments for me to swallow it.

Thanks MIJ, I have the first 4 in the series but if you have the others I'd like to borrow them sometime.

Re: The Book Thread
I've just finished reading Jim Butcher's Codex Alera sextology; Apparently, it was written as a bet - can you make a good book from bad ideas (in this case the lost Roman 9th Legion meets Pokemon). Answer - yes you can. Elemental-controlling Romans, barbarian wood elves, giant wolf-men, yetis and evil ant-people. Cracking stuff, an interesting setting, decent characterisation and plots that get on with it for the most part. Recommended.
Talking of James Herbert's Rats novels, did youever read The City, the graphic novel illustrated by Ian Miller? Ian MIller was the guy who did the full-page pictures at the beginning of each section of the Rogue Trader rulebook and the first Realms of Chaos book; really weird, creepy stuff:

Re: The Book Thread
I got mine for a quid at a library clearance sale. Previously, it was in the comics section - alongside Sandman: The Doll's House
right next to the kid's books.

Yeah, there's something to Ian Miller's drawings. As a kid I didn't like them, but with time you can really appreciate the comic gothic style he has. Very nice find.

Likewise, beautiful book. Not an artist that appealed first time around but now it looks really gorgeous and epic. Good find. I'll have to get my ticket refunded and add this to my booklist.

Think he did some artwork for whfrp enemy within campaign. Death on the Reik. http://www.google.com/imgres?start=86&h ... x=35&ty=59
Crikey, researched on amazon and a new copy of that book is going for 350 quid. And not only that, James Herbert's new book, yet to be released, has been using this forum for research. Sugar, I knew they knew about us; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ash-James-Herbe ... 01_01_t_lh help!
