Hi all,
So, I went and spoke to Ikeda san today about placing an order with Warlord through him and Hobby Shop Town Crier.
The price we finally agreed on was a 15% discount and a rate of 135 yen to the pound based on Warlord's own RRP.
Now, the exchange rate currently sits at about 123 yen to the pound, but the bank will never actually charge that rate, usually it will be at least 5 points or so higher. On top of that, there are usually extra costs such as bank charges and credit card charges. (Last time I sent money home it worked out at about 140 yen to the pound). This is an exchange rate that I think is fair and it leaves Ikeda san with a little space to work if the rate changes between now and when he places the order. As for the discount, if you order from Maelstrom you will usually get at least 10%, similarly if you order from Warlord direct they will knock the VAT off which works out at around a 15% saving. Again, this is a price that I feel is fair.
I will be emailing everyone who has expressed an interest in placing an order with the details of the prices to confirm before I send a full list and cash to Ikeda san tomorrow. As I have said, I will pay for everything up front and folks can pay me back as and when they get their toy soldiers.
I will be paying Ikeda san tomorrow at Joshin and sending him the full order tomorrow evening so for any fence sitters, there is still time for you to check out
warlord's site and PM me a list of what you would like.
Warlord do a big range of stuff from pre-biblical ancient warriors to WW2 era tanks and guns as well as other bits and pieces. They also have terrain, paints (including the infamous DIP) and they stock Perrys and Victrix plastic models as well.
Note that the few Victrix metals, Army Painter Sprays and most of their bundle deals (ie buy three Tiger Tanks and get a discount) are not available for Ikeda to order. If you have a question, please let me know.
Cheers
P.
