Since "Other Games" is still only "Other Tabletop Games"... :D

So, uh, who else is all pumped about Star Wars: The Old Republic? It'd be cool to play an MMO and have some folks to group up with who are in the same time zone for a change...

my past experience of star wars games has been limited to old school stuff like Tie-fighter, Jedi Knight, and that pod racing game for the nintendo. However, all of these were rather good examples of their genres.

BUT

MMO games are the stuff of the devil. The very devil, I say. I mean seriously - for a compulsive "find out what happens next, the more immersive the better" kind of person like me, playing a game which effectively goes on forever would be a very, very bad idea. AND itd cost me money every month to do so.

So, while I wish you and any others who join you the best of luck in your forays into online gaming, Im afraid I must stick with games that have a beginning, a middle, and, most importantly, an end.

Having tried other MMOs before, I got sick of them very quickly due to the "It's the exact same thing again and again for 20 levels and then when you do try multiplayer, you get ganked in seconds because the other guy has been playing 12 hours a day since the Beta was released" situation.

That and whilst I think the original trilogy wasn't bad, I've always enjoyed Trek and Gate more than Wars.

I don't understand why people play MMO. Play a table top game, chat with your friends, go out for beer after. You know, have real face to face communication.

Weren't you a big supporter of online bloodbowl? I think the reasons for playing MMOs can be similar in some cases. E.g. your friends all live a long way from your house, busy schedules etc.

Um, is anyone who doesn't want to disparage one of my hobbies going to weigh in? I was kind of looking for people who might be interested, not people telling me how dumb it is of me to be interested. :?

True enough, I do/did like FUMBBL but, and I may be wrong here, it doesn't seem to be the vacuum that online RPGs are.

To me, FUMBBL was something to do when you rocked home shit-faced after gaming with your mates and had an hour or so to spare. Things like Warcraft Online (or whatever it is called) seem a bit too absorbing.

All apologies. Didn't realise the purpose of the thread was to post nothing but comments that you liked.

gomen dave-san, didnt mean to come across as disparaging. I know lots (and looooots) of people really like MMOs, and as I said initially, more power to em. Theyre just not for me. (or, more accurately, I think Id like them too much.)

pay no heed to spev - he's just a grumpy old git :D
