Fleabay - My new best friend

Why the hell have I only got on to the e-bay band wagon? Why wasn't I told about the bargains to be had here?
:D :D :D

I just made my first purchase and man, what a bargain!
For around 15000 yen I got 161 metal Beastmen models!!! That's less than 100 yen per model. They are all cleaned up and on bases just waiting to be painted. I don't even have to strip 'em down. I can hardly believe it.

Admittedly, only 50 or so are models I really wanted, and the rest I only sorta wanted but still it made my week. The metal gors are what really got me interested in WFB back in the day. I will now be able to field two huge units of them. And you'll be sure they'll be Wyssaned to the max too. ;)

As well as finding this little gem, I had a good search round for other stuff and there sure is a lot of good stuff to be had. There were even a bunch of reasonably priced Squats to be had!

IMHO e-bay should definitely be amongst the first ports of call when buying GW stuff. As I said there is such a huge range of stuff out there. If I were starting a new army, I would definitely check out what units I could pick up cheaply from e-bay before buying new.

How about the rest of you? How have you found e-bay (and any other auction sites)?

Do you use them a lot?

Have you had any particularly good/bad experieneces?

Got any tips/advice for those who aren't on board or who are recent converts?

Do you think that guy in Nigeria with the 10,000pt Marine army, made up of only rare OOP minis is legit?

I have bought two armies worth of OOP RT era minis.

My experiences have been generally good. Most sellers I have dealt with have been very honest.

Ebay has been very good about refunds when things have gone wrong.

Check out sellers ratings and feedback. Aside from the odd few purchases, I usually buy from the same group of guys.

One more question, do you guys prefer 'buy it now' or waiting for an auction?

It depends what I am after.

I will use Buy it Now if I think the price is reasonable.

Auctions can net you some real bargains though.

Agreed. Sometimes the bidding can just get tiresome, especially if I have no time to keep checking. So, if the price is right, I'll buy it on sight.

I got an excellent deal on some unopened Wld Riders.

In general, I prefer "buy it now" and auctions with less than a day on them. I don't like having to wait a week to know if I've bought something.

It's the go-to place for unsupported games like Epic*. I think I got all 5000-odd points of Orks I have for $100US or so, which is a good deal.

I'm a fan of buy it now, since you know what you're going to get and don't have to hang around online for the last hour of the auction to make sure you get what you want for the price you want. Too much stress for me.

I haven't yet had a bad experience, but then I don't use it too much.

*Although obviously prices can vary widely depending on how common the models you want are. There are regularly huge semi-random lots of orks for the price of a single tyranid bio-titan.

The dangers of starting your auction at $0.01 and just assuming people will bid it up to where you want it...
