The Happy Mondays

I was just reading up on Wikipedia about the national holiday next week (Umi no hi). Apparently, the holiday used to be the 20th of July, but due to a series of law changes in the early 2000s it is now the 3rd Monday of July.
The laws are called The Happy Monday System.
As such, I feel that this tribute is deserved.

What was this weeks Happy Monday in Japan? Was going to bed and saw my son was online in the middle of the day so I stayed up late playing video games with him since Monday is a holiday for me too (Columbus Day). He said it was a day off but he didn't know why.

Sports Day! Originally October 10th to commemorate the '64 Tokyo Olympics (they started late that year), moved to Happy Monday status in 2000.

Thanks for the info! LOL, guess my son should have been out playing, rather than indoors geeking out on the computer.
