Most people who want Windows in their Mac just put in a partition and have both. Very easy to do .

FWIW, I *believe* that Windows 8, like Mac OS, is automatically and for no extra charge multilingual.

True. My friend isn't most people though. :D

@ToD - Yes it is. You can even choose regional variations for example English can be US, Canadian, English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, South African etc.

Thanks for the input, all :)

I've been giving this a lot of thought the past few days. It seems to really boil down to personal preference. ie both PCs and macs are pretty much of a muchness if you don't have anything specialized in mind. I was leaning towards Mac yesterday, but then I learned that the new version of iMovie doesn't make DVDs very well. Not that I want to do a lot of DVD editing, but that was one of the minor plus points of the Mac (Kaz wants to do some home videos of the kids). Today, I'm looking at PCs (dell, for today, since that's what my previous one was and I was pretty happy with it.) I figure that I'm pretty familiar with PCs, and also already have a lot of software and suchlike.

I just have one question at the moment: Prim, you said your PC had a 16Gb graphics card as well as 16gb of onboard ram. What in the heck graphics card are you running? A top-of-the-line Alienware rig only has 3Gb ram on the graphics card. Are you sure yours is 16Gb?

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

Whoops. Looked at the wrong line of technical stats. 2Gb of Ram on the card.

I managed to do a dvd on my Mac and it was fine. Saying that though, the previous version of iMovie was apparently heaps better than what they have now.

Like you said though, if you have a butt load of Windows software already it makes sense to stick with Windows.

Right-o. Comparisons have been compared, decisions have been decided, and calls have been called. I went for a PC in the end. I was tempted by Dell's notamac All-In-One fancy pants touchscreen single piece effort, but in the end I plumped for the sensible desktop mini tower that had a 40,000yen off special offer. Tis still pretty spanky, though. Separate touch screen monitor, windows 8 (living dangerously, I know...) 32GB (!) of RAM, 1.5Gb graphics card, 3Tb HD, plus 256GB SSD, and, yknow, a keyboard and a mouse and all that jazz. I shall let y'all know how it is when it arrives. Many thanks for your helpful input in this most traumatising of decision-making periods. :)
