The Battlefleet Gothic computer game is so good, people!

I picked it up on Steam on the advice of some friends - 5000 yen is usually a bit steep for me - but man is this good. It's got character out the wazoo, it's got challenge, it's got driving kilometer-long spaceships around while your captains shout "Initiating tactical cogitator!" in overwrought bombastic scenery-chewing voices, it's got Eldar captains sneeringly mocking the Mon-Keigh (and being just as annoying to play against as on tabletop), it's got everything. The campaign is Imperial-only, but you can play random-mission pseudo-campaigns with them, Chaos, Eldar, or Orks, with Marines and Tyranids in the pipeline. Multiplayer is apparently hilariously broken and easy to cheat, but the computer has been plenty challenging for me so far, so eh. Good stuff!
(It also helps that the paint scheme for the Imperial ships is exactly the same as I used on my tabletop fleet, woo-hoo!)

I was looking at it and reading some online reviews. My PC should play it and I don't mind forking out for a good game, so I may pick it up at some stage. The only negative point that was brought up in the reviews was a lack of transparency in how effective all the ship upgrades are. You can modify every system on a ship, but the game never gives you any feedback on whether or not those upgrades have any impact on what you are doing. Aside from that, everything else was pretty positive.

A pitchfork? jeez, what a weak defense. Sadly mine is an empty wallet.

Also, because I'm that kind of guy and the campaign is the 12th black crusade detailed in the rulebook, I'm going through and renaming all my ships with "historical" Gothic sector ship names.
(The campaign is quite good, if only because losing a battle or two doesn't end it - it's a branching dealio where losses will make winning harder, and of course eventually impossible, going forward, but it's really not such a big deal to lose a battle here and there.)

All ramming, all the time!
(One cool thing about how it's implemented in the game is that, unlike in the TT game, ramming uses collision physics, so you can literally send the ships you ram spinning off course and fun stuff like that. Good times!)

Well, I bought it, installed it and played a few levels.
It's ok. It certainly feels like a 40K game, but the cut scenes are laughably poor compared to what other games are doing these days. The controls are ok, but it never really feels like their is a lot of connection between the player and the ships on the screen.
If you haven't already bought it, it might be better to wait until Steam has a sale...

So I logged a few more hours in on this....
Yeah, it's not bad. The campaign setting is pretty cool, with lots of side missions as well as the main story. The cut scenes are appalling though. Some of the missions are easy, others are sooo difficult. The mission to destroy Eldar flag ships before they escape the map is just an exercise in frustration.

Some of the advice the computer gives you is laughable. "If your port batteries are crippled, switch to your starboard batteries." Sadly, I have as yet been unable to find a way in game of determining which batteries have been crippled. The game just reports that a weapon has been destroyed, but doesn't say which one.
On the plus side, once you get used to the game (since it gives almost no feedback, this takes a while) and figure out how things interact and what all those icons mean, it's not bad. Some of the missions can be a fun way to pass the time, crippling enemy cruisers and ramming frigates out of your way. There is a difference in how the factions play - which is always nice to see - and different modes in which to play them. It does feel like 40K and the graphics for the game itself are pretty.
Overall, it's not bad if you can work past the initially steep learning curve.
