New Years Resolutions 2011

Post by Primarch » Mon Jan 03, 2011 9:48 am

Hey guys,
So it's 2011 and we have all had time to recover from our hangovers and return home from visiting in-laws.
So, I'd like to kick this thread off by announcing my New Year's Gaming Resolutions.

1. Do more painting. My hobby collection is getting bigger by the second and I am losing the war of attrition that is the painting side of my hobby. I need to spend more time with a brush in my hand getting my models ready for games.

2. Make my posts more worthwhile. Its too easy to post up short content-free posts, so I shall endeavour to make sure that every post I make counts and contains more than just bitter sarcasm. I plan on ignoring threads posted by obvious or...trolls wherever possible.

3. Work on my Japanese. I've been here long enough that I really have no excuse for not being able to talk to the Japanese players. I need to knuckle down and read text books instead of rule books.

4. Focus more. I currently have models and armies for 11 games yet I rarely play more than 2 or 3 of them in a month. I need to stop buying into new games (#sob# and Dystopian Wars just came out) and play the ones I have more.

This seem like a Thread that will be fun to look at a year from now.

1. I will finish painting and building the models I have before starting a new army. This means it may be years before I get any Gray Knights. But I have far too many armies and I only get to play them every other month or so.. so I should finish up the models I have.

2. Try to be a little less nice guy... I normally only say nice things about peoples painting and modeling.. it seems that being critical is more what people on this forum want. So if you have done a good job I will say nothing if I think you need to do more work on a model I will give you the cold hard truth. From what I have seen in the past I am only ever critical of MIJs work and because he is very good... perhaps I need to be critical of the rest of you lot to make you work at it harder...

3. Build my new Game table: just the table.. for now... the terrain on top will be of the highest quality so until i have the cash to spend on it I will just use the terrain I have...

4. Really learn how to paint... I am sick of being a crappy painter... I will endeavor to reach a higher level...

5. Start doing some Online RPGs over skype TOD is getting Gama World ready I hope to start playing in that ASAP

Well that is plenty of stuff to do this year so in the words of Master Yoda "Do or do not there is no try..."

hmmn...

1) focus less on painting. An odd resolution, I know, but lately everything I do is measured in terms of how much time it takes out of my painting schedule. This, I feel, is not healthy. When all is said and done, what we do is a hobby, done purely for fun. Sure, having a fully painted army is a fine goal, but I reckon Ive gotten a good deal too focused on it. So, I'm not gonna try and get my Cryx all done by Jan 30th. Im not gonna try to get my Dark Eldar all done by golden week. I'm gonna paint what I want, when I want, and from time to time, as the mood takes me, not paint at all and shoot zombies on the playstation.

that said, practical painting targets this year:

2) paint my dark eldar (long term goal, say...end of the year)

3) paint my cryx (hopefully by the summer)

4) paint my new, classic hellzapoppin old school Noise Marine. Yeah, my mate gave me one...

5) paint my malifaux gang.

6) not buy any new models except those needed for my dark eldar (venom, scourges, archon court) and any cool new stuff I fancy when Wrath comes out for Warmachine, including the book itself. Hopefully only a war engine and a warcaster, but maybe some bonejacks, too. Ill have to see the book first...
current (2019) hobby interests
eh, y'know. Stuff, and things

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

Resolutions

Try not to play games more than enjoy real life at the moment it's 50/50.

Exercise, join a gym

Take a weekly class in Japanese with a decent teacher who is not just a nice old lady volunteer

Try not to get angry so much and chill the frag out

Don't give in to hate Luke, that only leads to the dark side!

Keep on with the positive Admiral, we need good comments otherwise getting put down can put people off the hobby. Your painting is awesome by the way, that marine army that fits all codex at the last Nagoya tournament was really well done.

Resolutions:
1) Work on being a better English Instructor.
2) Work on my Japanese.
3) Read and finish several Japanese novels.
4) Be nice (and sexy) to my wife.
5) Improve my painting, limit my buying and start a terrain collection.
6) Exercise- but being number 6 I can kiss this off along with #7- save more money. :?
4. Focus more. I currently have models and armies for 11 games yet I rarely play more than 2 or 3 of them in a month. I need to stop buying into new games (#sob# and Dystopian Wars just came out) and play the ones I have more.
I'd just say you should wait until you can convince a ring of players to jump into a new gaming system with you.
