Yeah, I dunno, looks like a fairly typical sci-fi wargame IP at this point.

I mean, Rick is indeed well-known (and rightly!) for having an eye for rules, but it almost seems like (not just here, but also elsewhere on the Interwebs) that some folks are hoping GoA will be the second coming of 40K, while 40K itself was, I think, sort of a "perfect storm" of rules, miniatures, cool background, and marketing that will likely never be seen again.

Which is to say, I hope it's good rules and good background and good minis, but I'm not really expecting a blow-my-mind transcendent ruleset, and pretty miniatures are, frankly, a dime a dozen. Folks, this is not going to be the 40K Killer, no matter how awesome Rick is (and he's pretty awesome).

(I dunno, I might have been burned by AT-43, which I did think was an awesome ruleset, but wasn't saved by the same...)
Feel free to call me Dave!

Another update from Mr. Priestley. This time it's support and heavy weapons

And now for the general idea behind the setting.

This really interested me:
"... it should ideally provide us with a backdrop against which we can set a whole variety of games from spaceship combat to role-play and huge battle games – even though those things might have to wait until we have sufficient time to explore them."
I don't have any references to back it up, but I'm sure that the idea of offering close interplay between wargaming and roleplaying has been touted by Priestley before since way back. Imagine a kind of all encompassing or easily compatible set of systems that meant you could play your skirmish battles, roleplay some side missions, and even run starship combats, using the same protagonists.
I always felt it a shame that GW never really achieved this kind of compatibility between warhammer fantasy and the roleplaying game, for example, although things like Lichmaster tried. Antares articles have also mentioned that their d10 system will make transfer between skirmish wargaming and rpg at a later date much more feasible. I've always loved the idea of some kind of game that would offer the best of both world in this way.
Meh? Or Yeh?

I would very much love for this to do the following:

1) allow me to use my existing models

2) have scope for infinite development (like 40k does, for example)

3) allow for interaction between RPG/skirmish/battle/space games

4) be popular with enough people here (and internationally) to make playing it a viable option

5) have some kind of system for developing your own stats for units. (See point 1)

If it can do all of these things, consider me interested.

1. Nothing stopping you, but they won't be Eldar in the 40K sense.
2. and 3. Sounds like it will meet those requirements.
4. Depends on the game, I for one am interested, but I'm probably not the best scale to measure by.
5. Nothing has been mentioned so far. Most games don't have that option though.

That would be nice. Battletech does 3 and 5 well enough. 4 mostly. 2 not so much and 3, nope.
